See if you changed banks for the pistons if the valve reliefs and squirt hole/anchor slot will be in the proper orientation... If you can't fix it by changing pistons from one bank to the other, then:

If the pistons have floating wrist pins, then you can fix it yourself... Just remove the wrist pin clip from one side of the piston and slide the wrist pin out...

The arrow on the top of the piston should point to the front of the engine, and the connecting rod squirt hole should point towards the middle of the engine (Towards the opposite cylinder) and the anchor slot on the rod for the bearings should be toward the outside of the engine block...

One bank will be the opposite of the other....

If the pistons have press fit wrist pins, then you need to take them back to the machine shop and have them fixed as I stated above... ^^^^^
I hope they are floating. I will do it myself. If they're pressed, they will be getting an earful from me if they don't make it right or try to charge me for fixing them.

You explained that better than I did. I was not going to say anything about the rods till we got the pistons in right lol !! I did the samething on my first motor I built by myself when I was 16 . But only two piston before I noticed it.

Fords have a unique number system, most V8's are 1,2,3,4 on the passenger side and 5,6,7,8 on the drivers.
After working on so many Mopars and Chevys about a month ago I had a customer call me to get a 73 Cougar started with a 351 Windsor. They gave me a little education. Took an hour till I knew I could get it started and another three hours to get it running smooth.
weeds growing up through the Chrome on the side of the car and weeds growing up in the fan and covered in Squirrel Nuts..

After he told me all the things they had tried and getting there the next morning and seeing bare wires pointing out in almost every direction I was like oh boy this is going to be fun..

The rods are on the correct journals. I made sure of that. The squirt holes are pointing towards the cam, center of the block.

My grandmaw told me if I can get papaws truck running, I could have it. I carried 5 gallons of gas, a battery charger and 8 spark plugs. I left with the spark plugs and battery charger. It was empty. She said my cousin worked on it for days and my aunts new husband worked on it for 2 days. I poured gas in it after I hooked the battery charger up and it fired right up. LOL. I told them both cars run better when they have gas in them.

that's too funny is the big block truck that I bought just the other day was almost the same thing.

First things first call that Shop and ask him what the hell is up with this?!
I will inform them tomorrow but I am going to pull one out and see if they're floating or pressed. If they're floating, I may carry it up there or make them refund me some money and do it myself. After this, I am afraid to have them touch anything else.

I really didn't want to hit the disagree button but if it's exactly the way they gave it to you I wouldn't be pulling anything apart. That may just give them the excuse they need.

I go down there with a crap ton of pictures. Proving the direction of the block and the orientation of the Pistons. A picture is worth a thousand words they say and I believe so too.

I would have to pull everything apart. They gave me a box of parts. I put them in so they wouldn't be in those boxes till I got off the road. That's when I noticed the pistons were not right. I haven't been home long enough to do anything for a while. I was a truck driver and stayed gone for a long time. Only had 3-4 days a month home s and was moving a couple days after I brought the basket case home.

I will. I will take the lifters out and pull the oil pan and take pics so they can see the major screw up they created. Show them the rods are on the correct side but the pistons are bass ak-upside-wards.

Don't know what their excuse will be Small Block Chevy uses the same EIIEEIIE arrangement? Which is usually the excuse they use.

the last thing you want to tell him is that you don't have the car anymore and you have no intention of using it and you're going to sell it. I'd say I just got in a financial situation where I can finish this project and opened up the bag and seen this!??

10-4, I will. BTW, I see you have a Rodney Dangerfield link on your ,,, replies. I was watching Back to School earlier and thought that was neat to see another Dangerfield fan and I love the Blues Brothers.

Yes I'm a huge Rodney Dangerfield fan for more than just how awesomely funny he was. His dedication to his family and raising his children practically on his own. His extremely extremely tragic childhood that he overcame or tried too... look up his one hour biography it is worth its weight in gold to watch for a Rodney Dangerfield fan.
