71 383 - options

I have had 2 2bbl 1971 383s and 2 1971 4bbls. All had forged cranks. I have heard the 2 bbls had cast cranks, but have never seen a cast crank 383. Kim

It's undoubtedly production date or assembly plant related, but I had one. 1971 Plymouth Sport Fury 2dr htp with the concave back glass, column shift. Great highway beast with 2.76 gears. I put a .430 PurpleShaft in it and a 72 hp 400 intake and Thermoquad on top. Looked 100% stock with those upgrades and ran great, cast crank and all.
 
So is Allpar correct or wrong, I'm paraphrasing:

Starting in 1971, the cast iron 383 crankshaft was used as a cost saving measure on automatic-transmission cars. HP or not, in 1971, a forged crank was used if it's for a 4 speed.
 
From what I understand is that cast cranks we’re being phased in in 1971 2bbl engines. So I don’t think it means everyone, but maybe a later date. Kim
 
This is big time Detroit in it's heyday. Between the outgoing model year and new models on the production line, everything got used. Whether a forged 340 on a model year that wasn't supposed to have it, or using up engine paint and spraying a 69 V8 turquoise instead of orange.
 
First thing I would do is get rid of the 3:23 and get a 3:90 posi unit. All those engine mods won't do squat unless you can rev it.
