OEM chrome valve covers for 383

-
I know this subject has been debated before. I also saw the mopar memo describing standard chrome valve covers on the Plymouth Super Commando HP 383. Has anyone seen the Dodge Dart with "orange" valve covers on an hp 383?
A little off topic, but thought I would let you guys know that I have a 440 Super Commando pie plate for the air filter top, I can sell. Real nice condition. Thanks

Just received new repop steel valve covers from AMD. I'll bring them to Chroming shop in Newark NJ tomo for a quote. Keep you posted.
One looks newer than the other, (also bought chromed push in breather) see pic.

Check them on the engine before chrome. Make sure fit is good and the baffle issue was fixed!

Looking at the spot welds they seem to have raised them but I would check them first before I spent the cash.

So today I brought the valve covers to the chrome shop, I was quoted a price of $250 for the pair. He needs a few weeks to complete the 3 step process. He also showed me Caddy valve covers he just finished which were superb. When I pressed him about the clips and baffles, he had no issue with them whatsoever. We shall see. Keep you posted on the results.
Thanks

Why didn’t you just buy the ones from AMD that were already chromed for $310?

You are correct. I believe the 67 VC has a bracket on top. 69 VC has tower for breather/oil fill on drivers side and PCV grommet with side wire tabs only on passenger side.

They are exactly the same short of the heater hose bracket on the right side cover for 67/68.

When I did mine two things swayed me.

I have a 69.

For one my right inner fender was not punched for the heater hose bracket as expected for the 69 model year. My car is 10/68 build which by no means is early for 69 production, but it seems the car was pulled off the line as the first coat of paint appeared to be B3 not B7. Le Hodge pointed this out when I brought him the shell for resto and mentioned it may have been pulled and moved to the back of the line. Based on this I assumed maybe it was really an earlier build than the fender tag date. Based on that I opted for the 68 covers due to lack of the fender hole. Is it right?

Who really knows, but at least the 68 covers in chrome with bracket were available at the time of resto and I chose that option.

I have seen some 69 production cars without the fender bracket and no right side VC bracket with just ties on the hoses is that right? Regardless all “383” cars had chrome covers.

Thats pretty Interesting. My car also has a production date of 10/68 and has no fender well hole, but looks like right side fender well was replaced, prob got crunched way back when.
Asked my resto guy to run the hose bracket on the fender well as original.

Mine inner fender was definitely original. It is not now due to all the holes drilled over the years and just cheaper to replace it.

Hello everybody, I just picked these up today. Are these 1968, 1969 A body? Looks like one has a small hole in it.

They look like 68, I see the heater hose bracket on top. The 69 383 covers are smooth w 1 hole on each.
69 has heater hose bracket on Rt inner fender. See attached.

That make sense, thanks. Overall there in nice shape and would clean up well. Even the small tear would be very easy to repair. If anybody is looking for a pair of valve covers PM me.

Had mine done several years ago at a shop in Centrailia, WA. Had a lot of battery acid etcing on the driver side. Didn’t have to remove anything. Cost me $250.00
