Hey Guys I am reassembling my instrument cluster and my headlight post will not snap in. I shaved down the bezel to allow it to go in further but nothing. It is the same switch and the release button is in the right position. Any ideas?

Keep trying, they can be stubborn sometimes.

I had the same problem a month ago but put a little oil on it & tried it again & it worked

Remove switch, install rod and then pull it to on position. Remove rod and try install again.
Good chance its in the off position.
I replaced a switch many years ago, and inadvertently broke the part that locks onto rod.
I did manage to get switch apart and change the broken piece.
Robbed it from the faulty switch.

The taper end of the stem is supposed to draw the latch to align its hole then the spring brings the latch into stem holding position. If you push the release button without the stem in place you can push it too far. Then enough force on the stem while the latch is pushed too far can distort the other side of the latch. If it's not already screwed up...Put the stem in and push the button slowly may help
