Is It This Bad Elsewhere? How Do People Drive Where You Live?

-
Driver's around here are for the most part courteous.

But when I signal for a lane change in town, they just keep on coming.

Then there is ALWAYS someone in a hurry, weaving right and left to pass traffic.

edit: One more thing, the "California Stop" at intersections with four-way stop signs are the norm, but since everyone does it, the traffic flows pretty well, kind of like a dance choreography.

Epidemic here in the south. Most are transplants or young drivers. It is starting to really frost some of us!!

To the point road rage and guns is the only resolution. Maybe then some will learn some respect for others on the road! Sounds hard but what else will get their attention? DMV certainly is not teaching them the rules when they get a license!

What does a solid white line mean to you? I could go on for days, but really just put the damn phone down and drive with respect. Getting home first in front of all the other motorists seems to be a new fad here around Atlanta. Getting home alive and safe should be the goal!

Don't worry. Soon we'll all have electric cars!

It’s been complete madness on the roads in Philly for 50 years. I even made a logo for it...

The inscription is Latin for “Philadelphia, stay out of my way”

I only use the passing lane to pass. Coming down I-44 late one night, very little traffic. Right around Fort Leonard Wood a car passes me in the left lane, and stays there. Not another car in sight ahead of us. Couple miles down the road, he meets a car heading East in the Westbound lane. Drunk came off an exit thinking he was on the outer road. If somebody is going the wrong way on a 4 lane, you know what lane they are in.

I live in Michigan, so the roads suck! Surprisingly, lately everybody has been doing a great job staying out of the ditches, and I haven’t seen a car/deer accident in almost a week.

Around here you need to be doing 10-15mph over the speed limit. If not you get run over. I do my 5 mph over. If someone tailgates me I just slow down to the speed limit. And if that doesn't work I go under. I'm never in a rush to get where I'm going. I love pissing people off.
I could write a book on all the crap I see around here. Like a school bus cutting through a parking lot to skip a traffic light.

Yeah it's bad around middle Georgia. I have a friend whose great grandfather was an insurance salesman back at and shortly after the turn of the 20th century in what is now Warner Robins. He said that he would not write a policy for anyone who was going to drive their horse and buggy through Macon, much less a horseless carriage. Macon is still full of stupid people.

Among other things, by far the worst thing we have in FL, which we did not have in OH, is the-

"That guy's coming awfully fast, and there's no one behind him...I think I can make it out in front of him, even though I intend to drive 5 MPH under the speed limit" syndrome.

That line of thinking in a state where it snows in the winter will get you killed real fast.

You are the problem. You are the reason that people get angry and rage on others. Your sense of entitlement is the cancer of society. If someone closes in on you, you are obstructing traffic. Quit being a self appointed traffic monitor and get the hell out of the way. Your actions are not helping anyone. It is likely that one day, you will be hurt or killed by someone that is having a really bad day. Your time will run out. It could be 2 years from now, it could be tomorrow. Is that how you want to check out? Being ran off the road because of an incident that you created?

The "problem" is people not obeying the traffic laws, exhibiting (in the eyes of the law as well as law abiding drivers) aggressive/wreckless/dangerous behavior behind the wheel when it has a direct impact on another driver. I couldnt give a rip if someone wants to haul *** down the road, zig zag back and forth, or do stupid ****. Itll catch up to them one day, and hopefully thats one less ignorant nimrod off the road. Just stay the **** away from me, dont ride my ***, or pull out in front of me. And then someone who is obeying the laws is percieved as being the problem? It takes intelligence (one has to THINK) to operate a motor vehicle lawfully. Anything else is just a dumbass making a spectacle.

You're an idiot! So I'm trying to obey the law and I'm the problem???? It's not against the law to do the speed limit. And only on interstates are there a minimum speed. People like you are the problem.

So long as he doesn't do this in the left lane he is fine. He did not say so did he?
Nope. I move over on the highway. I was talking about driving in the suburbs. If I'm doing 35 in 30 and someone flies up and tailgates the hell out of me. I'm in the wrong???

Try all of the above in a Retirement Community where half the driver's shouldn't be on the road.Mix in Golf cars that are limited to 25 mph turning right from the left lane on a 4 lane street. Parking lots are a crap shoot. If they put their car in Reverse they're coming without looking. If you are backing out you can be almost all the way out and they will hit reverse and they're coming hell or high water.I would say 25% of the cars here have the sides all scraped up. I could go on but I think you get the drift. One more thing we are an unincorporated Community so the only traffic control we have is the occasional Sheriff Deputy.

In my region we have to unfortunately contend with mopeds, and they do get mowed down from time to time. Most get way over to the edge of the road so you can pass, but every once in a while you'll get one that has an attitude and pulls out in front of you, rides to the left of the lane, has it pinned, moped and his *** wobbling, dirtbag constantly looking over his shoulder at the line backed up behind him, and makes it hard to pass them. Then you have bicyclists.....riding on a busy road, and then you get the ones with their attitudes, oh boy, better not say anymore about that one.

I moved from South Jersey in '85 to Clearwater, Fl.
You still in Clearwater? I was there from 81 til 12 in Dunedin. Mom retired & moved there & is still there, so we go visit @ Christmas. I noticed the same trend, & that it has continued.
You say about 15/20 years ago?
Fast & Furious came out in 2000, hmmmm.
I use to take my Dart to the Dog House Cruise nights in late 80s early 90s. Occasional trip to Bif Burger.

Not enough time left in my life to respond to this. I have a question for all of you folks that either are city dwellers or spend most of your driving time in a city type of setting...have you noticed a decline in LEO presence?

No, suprisingly not in So. Cal. I work in Long Beach, home of Snoop Dog and a very diverse population. I drive a big L90 service body pickup and I am in no hurry to get anywhere as safety is such a huge priority on my job. I let people go at a tie in a 4 way, I stop for busses, I just take it easy and let others F up. Never had an incident, no road rage..I just let it go. Whats the point getting worked up from something you can't control (Is that part of the 12 steps? ) I don't see the majority of that driving here thank goodness. I do have a dash cam in my truck for the one incident that I hope to never have.
You Sir are a true rare breed in todays world. If only more drivers were like you the roads would be a much safer place.

Used to be when someone put on their directional they were asking to come over now the are TELLING you they are.
My pet peeve....people already driving on the highway in the travel lane who yield to those who are required to yield on the on ramps.....

Wow, how did I forget that one?!! Cars attempting to get on the interstate, they've got a mile long ACCELERATION ramp, yet they go 45mph down it to the last few feet before they try to merge with 70mph right of way traffic! Sucks for those on the interstate, and to have to follow them down the ramp as well.

I no longer have to put up with the **** drivers who don't know what a turn signal ( the least used piece of standard equipment in a vehicle ) is, who ride my *** so close I can't see their license plate in my rear view mirror, expecting me to get out of their way when there is no where to go and I'm already 15 mph over the limit, I no longer have to watch air head little girls drive down the road texting about God knows what as the are going 70 mph in a 55 zone.

I was lucky that some stupid **** driver didn't cause me any damage during any of the 30 years of commuter driving 60 miles to and from work........they are lucky also as I would have made them my indentured servant.
