I bought an 8.75 rear axle from a 1969 C body car. I believe the brakes are 11x2. Can I use the original backing plates and convert to 11 x 2.5 shoes and drums. Any help please.

I wondered this my self. I believe the backing plate dictates what size brakes can be used. It’s my understanding that the recess is deeper but not 100% sure. @hemi71x might have the answer though.

Backing plates are specific to each brake shoe size, and brake drum.
That's why there are 2 inch backing plates, 2 1/2 inch backing plates, and 3 inch backing plates.
You don't mix match parts onto one another.
It won't work.

All or none.
You will have to use everything off that "C" body rear end, or go looking for 2 1/2 inch stuff.
Right now, I'm out of stock with everything, until i get, find more, to put up for sale.

***UPDATE UPDATE*** 02-22-2019
I will have a complete 11 x 2 1/2 inch rear brake set up, for sale in about a week's time.
Everything, backing plates, wheel cylinders, levers & struts, spring hardware.
Anyone interested, let me know in a pm.
Just like everything that i previously put up for sale.

Hey Tim,

2" shoes with 11"Drums ?? I thought that the only shoes available with 11" drums were 2 1/2 or 3" .

Also, aren't the backing plates the same for 11" ??

Yes, there are 2 inch width by 11 inch drums.
Very common.

I've been selling 2 1/2 x 11 inch stuff for years, as that's what i limit myself to, or if i rarely come across 3 inch stuff.

AAndrew , c bodys were big Chrysler Newport etc. They used 11x2.

Ya, just seen hemi71x's post. Didn't know that. I have 11" x2 1/2 drums on the rear of my 68 Cuda. Works great!!

Here's a pic of a comparison of the old factory 10" vs the 11 x2 1/2 " The difference is amazing?

DO NOT get ANY brake shoes from the internet Chinese made outfits or companies -- you will regret it sincerely..... This new garbage rips the brake drums to smithereens.... Unfortunately, that is all they are allowed to sell because of Asbestos laws....

I, thankfully have ++ N.O.S.++ Asbestos ++ nice smooooooth braking -- and not illegal because it was manufactured before the statutes....
I have the # 334 for the 11" x 2" light duty "C" body --
(No Chrysler's -- but they were used in some Dodge Monocos & Polaras and some Plymouth Fury's)
I have the # 335 for the 11" x 2 1/2" for the "C"body
Heavy Duty & Big Block "B"s & "E"s... AND
I have the # 336 for the 11" x 3" for the Police Car
And Ambulance rears.....
++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos --- the ONLY way to stop!!!!!!
