I don't really care to create another profile on another site and have to follow several, so I'll try to collective here.

How on earth do I remove the window regulator motors from a 1992 Ram? I can get them out by sneaking a wrench behind the door skin (that's how I got them out of the parts truck, anyway), but I'd never be able to get a bolt started this way. I've tried loosening tracks and all that, but I'm not a bodyman by any means. There are holes in the door panel but they align with....nothing. Tips?

Tou have to pull the whole works out. Start by unbolting glass and push it up to top and tape glass to stay. Duct tape up and over.

I find lots of "how to" videos on Youtube.

Thank you for the tips. I'm old fashioned and will try both!

Not knowing how this is set up, why can't you drill/ punch an access hole in the door frame that WILL line up with the bolt? Step drill, etc

I have done that with mercury grand marquis and ford crown vic square bodys. Theres 3 dimples in the sheetmetal structure behind the door panel to drill access holes. Factory doesnt punch them. I use my 3/4" rotabroach hole cutter, and viola the bolts are right behind there. Maybe your ram has similar dimpled spots in the inner structure right where you have to drill with a holesaw to access the hardware.

Although I'd rather not drill holes in the door (simply because if the factory did this without them, therefore so can I), I will look and see if such a place is 'indicated' in the stamping. Might be my only option.

And not mentioned in the OP, but the FSM offered almost NOTHING on how to do this.

I don't know what you'll find in this Ram but... back in late 80s, early 90s, Ford would install the regulator complete with motor. Their door structure had punch dimples where a service tech could drill to access motor attach bolts rather than pull the entire assembly.
They had so many failures that they finally stopped servicing those motors separately. Binding regulators were killing the motors. anyway...Dealership customers had to pony up for upgraded motor/regulator assemblies or take it somewhere else to get a OEM type replacement motor only installed.
I have to add... It might be best to replace the complete assembly, especially at the drivers door. If it aint working now, you are realizing how often it is/was used. Good luck with it.

You dont see the drilled access holes behind the door panels, so who cares. I'd drill the access holes in a heartbeat to save myself the hassle of pulling the whole thing out along with the regulator, and cutting the **** out of myself on sharp sheetmetal edges just to change out a motor.

4 door Dakota's are famous for breaking the nylon guides on the cable tracks.

I've put five new tracks in my mom's 2003.

Last time I drilled a couple new 3/8-1/2" holes in the inner skin so I had more options to get a screwdriver/ quarter inch socket in to undo the bolts rather than be forced to use the factory access locations.

Saves a ton of time and a little skin from my forearm.

I also had a wood brace ready to go to prop up the window in the event it happens again (which is almost guaranteed).
