More truck issues. Oil question.

I'm thinking it may be time to euthanize the old girl?
Yea not much longer. Im trying to make it at least last until the inspection runs out. Im gonna pull the engine and transmission and save it for later project. I found another truck today Its really nice.

I thought about trying this.

Yes "this" is what I'm trying to avoid lol. I don't want to spend time and money on this truck just for it break something else in 5 months. I was thinking maybe thicker oil would slow down the usage or how much its sucking oil in.

Then park it and use it as a yard ornament. If you think you're going to get out of spending money on a vehicle especially with that much mileage, you may as well use them for yard art.

I don't think I'm gonna get out of spending money on it if I fixed it. I'm just not going to fix it. I was just asking if using thicker oil would reduce consumption. I'm not gonna tear down an engine and rebuild it when the frame is rusting out from underneath it. I will drive it till it breaks.

Probably not. I disagree it's the rings. Since the advent of modern oil additive packages, plus the EFI, rings and cylinders last a very long time. I am befuddled that you would not even put intake gaskets on it. That's cheap and a Saturday afternoon.

Did you see the pictures? If it passes inspection come may I will put a intake gasket on it. And drive it another year. I seriously dought it will pass inspection and I'm not putting that kind of time and money into it just to drive it 2 more months.

Its rusted thru and then formed a crack. Its basically two c channels connecting on both sides and where they overlap must have held water and rusted thru.

Throw that POS in the river.

Hey now don't talk about my truck like that. She has gave me years of faithful service she at least deserves a proper burial. Haha :poke:
now you see why I'm not fixing it just trying to use less oil until I get another truck.

You could always stick a frame under it. It has been done.

I have changed a few frames on new stuff (16-17 and18) and it isn’t a picnic. The older stuff may not be as bad. Kim

Why have you done that? Collision damage? I would think those were too new for rust.

Yes,collision damage. The Chevy/gmc trucks cant take much of a hit. I have also changed cabs on the newer 1s and their also a pain. Kim

Yeah, I have a friend who is the lead tech at the local Chebbie dealer in Macon. He talks about having to take cabs off all the time just to access the engine for work. They are designed that way. I ain't real sure how I would feel about that as a customer. Seein my new truck splattered all to kingdom come.

How hard is it to swap an automatic for a manual? I found this truck on fb for cheap needs a motor. I could rebuild mine (or the one in it) and put my manual in it. The body looks solid.

Not bad, especially when you have everything. And you do. That might be a good option.

Its in nc not to far away from me. The only problem is getting back here without a engine in it lol. He said he it ran but needed main bearings. I will message him later today.
