Whirlpool Gas Dryer Has the Squeaks

Belt tensioning wheel or a drum wheel maybe. You might search on line for your model for similar issues. Lots of videos out there.

Yeah, I`ve been dealing with it for decades, what`s the problem? :)
Mine is electric and has a ball bearing that I assume is at the end of the rear shaft, that is tensioned by a spring tab. I pry that back a touch and put a few drops of oil in front of that ball. It helps for awhile, it`s a constant maintenance thing. My machine is only about 35 years old. lol

Most dryers have little plastic slides with almost like the cast whiskers on it, in the front of the dryer. They sit in the front frame and the tub rides on them, they act like a bearing. They support the front of the drum. When they wear out the cause the drum to ride on the metal or on the plastic pieces and cause it to squeak. Replace them and sounds like new.

Plymouth 67 is absolutely right, a lotta those generic dryers have a Teflon pad above the door, that supports the drum, - it wears out/ thru and sqeeks.
It's replaceable, and avail at appliance stores.
Very common prob, with easy repair.

I see the drum has a lot of play fore/aft front/rear. Of course, I never inspected it when new, so I have no idea how much "play" is normal. Later this week I will dis-assemble it and check for worn parts.

Google search will probably lead you to a top 5 list of causes. then on to Youtube 'how to" videos. In my experience a constant high pitch almost whistling squeak is either the little plastic roller of belt tensioner or the bearing at center of rear drum. Not all brands/models have that bearing at rear center of drum. If its the tension idler, consider a new belt. Every part except the timer is reasonably priced.

the timer is expensive as all the stock was bought by Iraqi terrorists for their IED's....On a lighter note the drum is usually supported by the said whiskers in the front. Replace the nylon guides and you should be good to go.

Drum roller wheels in the back. Guar-un-teed. Replace them both. Cheap.

I just changed the drum & drum support wheels on my newer LG electric dryer. It was easy. Did a Google search for the symptoms, watched the video, found the parts on-line cheap and did it myself. Runs better than ever now.

I had a roper made by Whirlpool, it started squeeking a couple weeks after I bought it, I called the appliance store and they sent a technician out and he used graphite lubricant on the drum rollers and it fixed it, I had it for about 5 years after that and timer went out, went to a maytag after that.

I had a Whirlpool for several years. About once a year the drum support wheels would go bad and squeek like crazy. I finally modified the brackets to hold wheels for inline skates. (Ones with real bearings instead of some nylon material turning on a metal shaft.) No more squeeks and the dryer sold with the house when I moved 5 years ago. The couple who bought the house was a bit concerned about the age of the washer and dryer when they bought it but when we saw them a couple of months ago they commented on what a good washer and dryer they turned out to be.

Update: I forgot to mention that I lubricated all the bushing surface of the new wheels with Synthetic Disc Brake Grease. The kind with Moly, PTFE, & Graphite. They were dry when I took the old wheels off. Only one of the wheels had become seized on its axle and flat spotted. It didn't take much lube to get the job done.

My wifes dryer is a Samsung, its doing the same thing. Will raise cain for a bit , a squeaking grinding type noise and then quit and run quietly for a long time then start over at a reduced noise level.
I am not worried about it as long as we`re here to watch it, and don`t leave with it running. Its still under warranty !

Mine did that at first. On my unit, one of the wheels finally seized and it flat spotted the wheel. In doing so, it left quite a bit of ground wheel distributed inside the front, inner-compartment of the dryer. I'm pretty sure it was not a fire hazard, but with all the dust I shop vacuumed out of it, it would have added some good fuel to a potential fire.

While operating, my clothes dryer has a constant irritating squeak. Anyone deal with this before? Thank you.

Been through this a few times myself and it was always the drum support rollers, or the tension roller for the belt as mentioned.
It's easy to find and fix.
