It was just the other day I seen one of those hood scoops on a Chrysler 300 with big stupid Wheels going the other way and I thought to myself "what the hell was that!"

When I call O Riley's the first thing I say is what kind of car are we working on today? LOL they always laugh...
And of course just before they're done helping me I'll let them know they're open till 10 every night! LOL you know before they tell me that at the end of the call...
I'm sure it's just as painful for them and it's all policy...

I know we getting off topic here but I enjoy the part where it goes like this.

Axle seals for a ford 9 inch.

Make and modle.

1971 dodge dart.

Uh... that's not in the computer....

Or chevy 454 valve cover gaskets.

Make and model?

1927 ford model T

Er.......

It's not my fault, I just like messing with em. And yeah I need those...

don't worry I think the original poster won't mind if we derail the thread to bust Rusty's Nuts! LOL

I was just having this conversation with my son because he needs to get it a thermostat in that damn Power Wagon in the 2 degree temperatures in Denver. But he's got to get one the bigger one I believe 4 the 340 Cuda 4 Barrel manifold I put on there. It was originally a 2 Barrel manifold.. watch Rusty come in and bust my nuts and know that the same one will fit both LOL but I thought there was a bigger and a smaller one?

I can't tell you how many times I've made up a completely different car and obviously in front of them completely out of my head for the part Knowing damn well I'm not looking for a part that will fit a slant 6 73 Duster...

My response is simply "gimmie a decade"

Yeah I'd be stoked to have you at my oriley.

Its not your fault they hire kids
I hope Rusty's in the middle of my scale..
that one in the scale you get the guy in your picture there LOL and then at the other end of the scale that you get the guy that knows your car 10 times more than you do or at least he thinks he does..
Like I was at the parts store with a customer yesterday and we were talking over some solid non greasable U joints. When we mentioned them to the old parts counter guy he grumbled and said he wouldn't use those... Not knowing the application or anything like that. Driveline Specialties wouldn't let me leave their place with anything else LOL especially when I told him what I plan to do with it..

My custom drive shaft came with solid U joints as well. They said the same. Solid or nothing.

The rear u joint in my 64 Valiant is original and has the Chrysler number on it with the little bracket connecting the two caps together. It's 55 years old. No grease fitting and it is still very good.

My family owned and operated a full service auto parts, machine shop from 1952 until 2008 when auto zone said we will buy you out or open a store across the street and run you out. (We sold out but I'm still sticking it to em because my grandpa was smart enough to buy the building in 1980) FU@K YOU AUTO ZONE! Just keep on paying me....

:icon_fU:

Sadly the days of folks who can use the books and know what their talking about, let alone fix it are gone.

I attribute it to everyone being in a hurry. Some say technology. What brought about technology? The need and want to do things faster so we can do more things. Make more money. I say a lot of it is for naught.

Years ago I went into Advance Auto to get wiper blades for my 93 Dakota. The first question the kid asked was "two or four wheel drive"? I just laughed and told him that the wipers couldn't tell the difference.

I think moparmitch did the same. He owned a few parts stores and sold out to "the man" but owned the buildings. Ha HA HA!!! I love it.

Oh boy now we can tell parts store stories! Okay here's one of my favorite ones....
I go in the Baxter's Auto Parts and I'm looking for a couple things and this new kid comes out all eager to help me LOL and I start with a couple easy things and he's a little confused then I say I need a four and a quarter inch Dingle ball hone? He goes- ah..ah.. I'M NEW HERE!.. LOL and ran for the front counter...lol..

My machine shop PER Portland engine rebuilders (Ted King and Ron Larson) had their building on 10th and Hawthorne that they own! And it was kind of in what we call a bit of the industrial or old industrial area which is now becoming Ultra trendy and I mean spendy spendy condos and apartments. thankfully they're old enough now that they wanted to move out of that area and closer to home and are now working out of a custom hand-built shop they built on property near their home. they brought all the best high-end equipment and packed it into their shop and now exclusively just do custom work. But still that real old school take all the time to answer all your questions kind of people and I'm positive they're renting that building out for a mint of money! And good for them!

^^^ and to add to that story about Portland engine rebuilders I asked Ted years ago why he doesn't just sell this building and retire in Hawaii LOL? he said I absolutely love building Motors and hot rodding and talking to you guys and helping you build your Cool Motors and seeing them make you happy. I mean this is the kind of attitude that you get when you call and talk to Ted or Ron if you want to call that attitude LOL. This is what makes me just about in tears to see this guy down in Medford who just got ripped off by a shop (TWICE!) and now is calling Hughes performance across the country who is just giving him everything they can sell him.
