65 Barracuda

The Ford 9” is finished! Narrowed in our shop with a jig. 33 spline moser shafts, spool, and Wilwood disc brakes. Springs have been relocated and welded in. Turns out my driveline u joint fits the 9” yoke. New gas tank went in as well because mine was falling apart from rust. Straight axle is mocked up and ready to be welded in! Used the speedway straight axle kit with disc brakes. Next is to set my engine in and check clearances for steering. It gets better. Turbo and efi. I’ll accept your criticism but it will not affect my build. If anyone has done a straight axle on one of these let me know! I would like to ask some questions.

Update on the build. Engine and tranny are in. Steering is all setup on the straight axle with correct angles. Rear still needs shocks. Ladder bars are going in right now. Fenderwell headers are finished and just need to get coated. Lots left to do but will be done this winter and ready to race next summer!

Been awhile since I have posted an update. Front axle is complete. Fender well headers are welded up but are getting sent out for ceramic coating(white). 6AL2 ignitin is currently being wired up along with fuel pump, line lock, and battery disconnect. Scored chromed ladder bars at a swap meet so those are installed on axle and i’m currently making a crossmember to mount them to and to incorporate my driveline loop. Decided against the whole turbo/efi after I got the parts.... want to keep it old school true gasser style. Swapping wheels out for Fenton gyro 15X3.5 fronts and ansen 15X10 slots rear. Scored an original MOON 3.5 gallon tank and mounts. Will post some more pictures later. Got all my pulleys figured out and radiator installed. Engine is ready to fire once I’m done wiring and starter is installed. MOON pedals going in as well. Roll bar soon. Lots to do but so close to be ready to race.

Another update. Moon tank from 60’s mounted up. Also some period correct 15X3.5 Fenton Gyros up front. Have some 15X10 for the rear. Moon pedals installed. Built brackets for throttle cable and return spring. Making sure to get WOT. Ladder bar mount/crossmember/driveline loop is built and just needs welded in.

those 10's look a lot like mine. they're going on a 9" axle too but under my 68 valiant. i've got a gt45 turbo for the 383 too. i'm trying to resist efi, i really want to run it on lpg. we'll see. i'm loving the straight axle, i'm leaning that way again myself.
neil.

I went away from the whole turbo setup...saving for another project. wanted to stay old school and somewhat correct for gasser era. If you are going to turbo it they make great blow through carbs that can be calibrated to your setup and then have tech support help you dial it in. As far as straight axle I went with speedway but if I did it again I would get a chromoly built from another company.

That's gonna fly with a 360 and some good headers! Ditch the bucket seats and rear fold down, they weigh a ton! Get some A-100 Van seats.

The reason for the lpg is I can use it almost daily, I plan to use the available forklift bottles as the main source of fuel with occasional top ups roadside at the pump. The forklift gas works out about £0.25 versus £0.65 at the pump. Pump price is still half the price of petrol over here so using the cheapest option a car doing 10mpg would '£ for £' return the equivalent to over 40mpg.

Thought I would finish up my build thread. Pretty weak on keeping it updated haha. The car is finished and raced a little before the season ended. Super happy how it turned out. Going to be making minor changes this winter as well as starting a new build on a 67 notchback. I’ll keep posting pictures of the 65 as it progresses.

Great build..

What times are you running?

Thanks! Without doing a bunch of tuning I ran a 8.5 @82 1/8th mile. Need to fine tune the carb and play with my timing curve a little. Also need to weld in my ladder bars because I was getting pretty gnarly axle wrap and it slowed my launch down.
