Turning back the clock

Originally, Butch used a Mr Gasket (one of his sponsors) 3 speed (w/ reverse) shifter for the 4 forward gears. He said the longer arms of the 3-speed gave him greater leverage. That meant he needed a way to shift into reverse. He later replaced the Mr. Gasket 3-speed shifter with a Hurst Super Shifter with no reverse mechanism. That is the present configuration.

Additionally, the shifter itself is raised and moved slightly to the left to make the forward gear shift rods as straight as possible and increase clearance with the transmission cross-member.

The original Mr Gasket shifter is long gone, sooooooooo , from archive pictures and guidance from Butch, we crafted a replica. The reverse shift handle is held on with a quick release pin to make removal a snap. The shifter, tunnel cover, and upper half of the transmission cross-member can be removed in less than a minute.
