NEW Slant Six Manifold for $98 on Ebay? Any good?

-
From what I've read in the past, Dorman makes the best aftermarket manifolds but they are almost 3 times the money.

If you're on a budget, I say go for it! I almost bought one of these several years ago but found a donor first.

Check your fitment. I have a 67 and need a manifold as well but the fitment chart shows for 70+ darts. dont know what the difference is.

I bought a Dorman and it was not perfect. In short the carb heat-box was a piece of crap. And it's welded together so you cannot just take it apart and rebuild it better. I modified it enough (mostly using a dremill) to get it to move freely. The good news about that Dorman was that the mating surface between the manifold and head was very good. (And I think that's where I would be most concerned about if I were buying a cheapo manifold. ) If you have a big mill at your disposal, you might not care.

The other thing (that is NOT an issue, just something to consider) is that the pictured exhaust manifold has re-enforcements on the tubes. I had to grind a couple of those down in a couple spots to work with my (Offy) intake manifold. Not sure if the stock intake manifold would have had that issues. Also, it's not much an issue, just some busy-work. I think you WANT the re-enforcements. There's a reason they added them to the design (the original manifolds tended to crack, I guess.)_

Hi,

I ordered the $98 manifold last nite, together with the fel-pro gasket kit. Lets hope everything will work out for me... will update here once I got all sorted (or not!).

Cheers

Thats the later model with the reinforcement ribs and round spring counterweight. The early ones were almost smooth and tended to crack if not used with the conical washers and triangles as they expand when hot. The clearance around the triangle washers and torque spec is important so as to let the manifold slide on the gasket when hot.

Put some high temperature anti seize on that flapper valve hinge. That way, it will likely never seize up and work smoothly.

Torque to 10 Ft Lbs so you don't crack it.

@1966DartConvertible, any follow up to this?

Anybody else use one?

These manifolds are back on Ebay. My exhaust manifold has failed rather spectacularly, I was all set to buy the Dorman manifold If these come from the same cow, I could use the extra $200 somewhere else.

Well I went ahead and ordered one of these. It arrived today, and looks pretty good. It's a lot nicer than the Remflex gaskets I ordered through Amazon, which were folded to fit into a too-small box.

Hopefully I can install it in the next couple weeks and see how it performs.

Any issues with the $98 manifolds? They are back and now $89 but say they won’t fit my 67 slant. Don’t know why they wouldn’t.

Hover over the ebay pictures with your cursor and look at the magnified view. The casting is HORRIBLE. I would look around for a good used one before I bought that crap. I guess if you don't care, go ahead and get one, but if you do, I HIGHLY suggest deburring that thing all over where there are casting marks. Those will be the first places cracks will form.

I noticed that. Looks rough for sure.

I would be most concerned with the manifold to head sealing faces. I bet dollars to doughnuts they are not flat and straight worth a snot and would have to be milled first. Course I could be wrong. I hope I am. Easy enough to check with a straight edge. Maybe 1966DartConvertible will run a straight edge across his and see. Of course, that's just ONE manifold. lol
