First one I have ever put together with info from Larry Shephards book and the Eaton owners manual booklet I got with the Locker.

I just went out and set my dial guage up again and rececked it and got .012. I was sure I had it .008.

Could be my eyes, the pattern looks to be a little high on the gear teeth. Might recheck that again too. Good Luck

Did the temp change in the room since you last checked? When I worked for GM years ago I used to do axles and was freaked out one morning I came back in and double checked my backlash on a Camaro and found the same thing.... magically it grew in spec... then an old timer told me not to worry. Shop was down to 30 degreees the night before. The dealership shut off the heat at night. Long story short I waited until noon and rechecked and it was 1/2 way back to the spec i set it at at 4pm the day before.

I was thinking the same thing. Pattern looks high.
On the backlash, i set it to minimum.
Roll it around a few times after every adjustment.

looks decent to me . it looks a little hi in a pic or 2 but looks good in a pic or 2 maybe just the angle of pic .

Tighten up the backlash and you should be good, it should pull the pattern deeper into the gear. Check it in 3 different places.

Looks "high"? WTH does that even mean? Here's correct terminology. That pattern IMO is dead nuts on as far as being on center on the ring gear tooth. However, it is a tad SHALLOW, which means it "could" stand for the carrier to move towards the pinion gear. A little. That way, you will engage the ring gear a little deeper. Then it should be perfect.

Looks High probably has to do with the legalization of marijuana.

To the rest of us it means that the pattern is to the outside of the tooth which in a sense means it is high on the tooth.

Yeah I got it but it's incorrect terminology. It's either too deep, too shallow or just right.

Wait......are we still talkin about gears here? lol

I Tightened the backlash up a bit as recomended and it does now sit a little in from the outside of the tooth. Looks pretty similar to the Ideal Contact (pic).

If you improved it any at all it has to be VERY close or spot on. I'd run it. I would have run it like it was......but it sounds like you got it even better.
