I don't have any offspring. My only step-brat is giving birth for the first time come July. Does that make me grandparent, step grandparent, a nobody, or something I have not thought of yet? Thank you.
 
You don't have to be the biological father to have her as a daughter. IF you consider her a daughter, then you will have a grand baby

Are you a grandpa or pawpaw? That is the real question.
On my mom's side it was always my "black granny and black pawpaw" because when I was little they were still young and had dark hair.
On my dad's side it was my nana and pawpaw.
My black granny is the only one still alive and now she is old and gray. I was fortunate to have 4 really great grandparents! I was closest to my pawpaw on my dad's side we were best friends and did everything together. He always helped me work on my dart and barracuda back in the day when I was just a kid who didn't have a clue. He would always say I don't know why you want to drive this old junk. It was junk when it was new now its 20 years old and it even bigger junk. Hahaha he didn't understand that to me they where classic. To him it was just another old used car. He had some cool stories about old cars tho he was born in 1918 and saw them all!
 
I heard I quote one time that went something like this. “Any old fool can father a child but a real man will be a father to a child” and dna doesn’t determine if someone is family or not.
 
One of my best friends that I hung around with a lot over the years has a daughter that has known me all her life and calls me her "uncle", she is grown up and out of the nest and living with a boy that my son went to school with, but when she sees me I get a hug and a "Hi Uncle".

What is your relationship with your "step brat"? What do you "want" to be?
 
IMHO, the step kid's children are your grandkids. I have three stepkids and 2 kids of my own with a grand total of 8 grandkids.

My oldest grand daughter, wise beyond her years about many things, summed it up really well. "This is great, I have a whole lot of grandparents!"
 
Babysitter......and say no a few times. Let them feel what responsibility is.
 
I have 2 stepdaughters and 5 grandkids and 1 grandkid that's my daughters, love them all the same!
 
You will be what you want to be. If you want to step up to the plate and accept the baby as a grandchild, you will be. Not a step grandpa, but just a plain old grandpa. If you choose not to accept the child ad a grandchild, I think you will regret it. You don't need blood to be a Grandpa.
 
I have 3 grandchildren of my own. Had I have had step children, I would hope that I would have been enough of a father figure to warrant being Papaw to their kids.
 
I am in the same boat. My stepson is like my little brother. I'm 'Uncle Andy' to his kid. Just the way things happened. We all love each other and titles don't make any difference.
 
My paw was my stepfather's dad. Me and my step dad just barely get along to this day. My Paw taught me dam near everything I know.

My father's dad never taught me squat.

When my racecar gets painted it will have my Paws name lettered on the driver side fender listed as mechanic. Just cuz I know hes watching out from above.
"Mechanic - G. Tadlock" will be proudly displayed.

My "real" grandfather's name will not be painted on the car.

So what does that tell you?

You are what you want to be.
 
If you really want revenge, offer to babysit so mom and dad can take road trips in a couple of years. Then take the kid to the track, let him/her stay up late, buy the overpriced hotdogs and snacks at the concession stand, let the kid stay up till midnight and send him/her home with hotwheels of your car, other toys and gumibears and the like.

Linda's 3 Daughters have given us 6 Grand Kids and I Great Grand Kid. My middle Son Married a woman with 2 Daughters and 2 Grand Daughters. I'm PaPa to all of them with no "Step" involved.
