So my neighbor says he has a grinding noise coming from the back of his car; could I take a look at it with him. I walk across the street and look at what I found in his driveway. Needless to say the rotor was toast. We got the job done for a fraction of what a shop would have charged. As it turned out his 17 year old son drove it for a few days with the grinding noise.

Have seen them ground right through to the fins on the rotors.
Caliper pistons doing the braking.
Saw a rotor rusted through and stuck in the caliper, spin wheel and rotor was stationary.
Drum brakes with drum part ground away and no shoes.
Seen most every failure imagineable.
Its crazy how far some people let things go.

From the looks of that rotor... the radio works fantastic!
LOL. What I meant was that since one piece of pad fell completely off, it was metal on metal and the rotor was toast. Good catch.

Had the radio stopped working they would have brought the car in to get fixed ASAP. Some people will literally drive a car till the wheels fall off but if the radio or A/C stops working the car becomes "un-drivable"

If I had a nickel for every time I told someone, "You should know you are riding around on flat tire(s)". Not so often today thanks to modern technology and metal valve stems.
Every vehicle could have had electric brake lining sensors and warning lamps many years ago if the mfgrs wanted to do that.

When I see brakes like that I just wonder...WTF ARE YOU DOING!!! How dont you notice the noise??? People cant really be this stupid....then, I see it again and realize...they are!! Lol!!!

I would say thanks to the Gooberment nannying people too lazy to take care of their **** and fuel mileage demands and driving the cost of cars up. BTW they have those little high-tech squeaker thingys we all bend back to give us another 5000 miles.

I'll never understand why people are so dumb when it comes to cars.

Up here they rust off, and some garages break them off.
