Pay Pal

I just wanted to get some help here with advice and your thoughts on this issue. I have been getting so much hassle with selling some parts on ebay and Paypal. Before I rememberred this site (thank god) I listed my console and my headlight bezels on ebay. I have had nothing but the most awful time with buyers who now have my parts and disputing the sale. I didn't even get money for the parts and they got my parts. My parts where for my own project barracuda so they are great quality for one and I know that there should not be a problem with my price i asked. My poor girlfriend is trying fix this issue because I will lose my temper. I didn't realize that it was so messed up now and people are that, how do i say this, THE WALKING DEAD. I can show my listings and see what you think. OMG. HELP

I quit using eBay - too many fees and hate mandatory shipping charges, which PayPal charges fees on top of - I find I get much better results buying and selling on forums like this where so many of us have common interests

I don't really know how to react to all of whats in your post?
Lol. Yea I was just trying to explain all of my issues with selling some parts on ebay and Paypal. I can't believe how awful it has been with these 2 buyers. I didn't get to sell them here before I remembered this site.

Just can't believe how awful some people are now. Especially when they are messing with real Mopar people. Should not be an issue let alone they have proven that they are idiots. Just blows my mind.

You should have very little reaction with people on ebay. It's not the social site it use to be. Just play by the rules and don't post anything in comments that they can use against you. If they don't seem reasonable, make them send the item back to you before you compensate them.

Yea I didn't even have any conversation with these people until I had to after they had an issue. I had to explain it to Paypal and ebay. Just crazy.

It's a buyers market there anymore. A seller is at their mercy. Just gotta go through the process and hope you don't lose out on shipping.

Ya I see that that now. Thanks for your response. Had to see what you guys thought

I only tried to sell on ebay once, a long time ago. THE REAR END DIDNT SELL AND THEY STILL CHARGED ME FOR IT IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT. (disregard caps)
Anyway I have never tried to sell w/them again. I have bought a ton of stuff tho, and had great results, used the buyer protection once and came out ahead, but that's another story.

Not enough info.

What happened?

I never ship anything until I receive payment.

I never accept or use "friends and family" unless they really are friends or family.

I never refund until I receive the parts back at buyers shipping expense (and inspect them for damage not present before the sale), and I clearly state that in the listing, in bold print.

I have been known to give a partial refund, but those are extremely rare and and clearly documented via ebay correspondence.

I always insure the object via USPS (or whoever), and provide tracking.
It is the recipient's responsibility to deal with USPS for damage in shipping.

I also usually transfer the payment out of paypal immediately after receipt.
Paypal can refund a buyer from your paypal balance but not from your bank account.
I want to be in a position to agree with the refund before any money moves.

I sold Mopar parts on a part-time basis for 13 years and I dealt with people face to face . Did I get screwed , sometimes , but 95% of the time I moved product . I went to Mopar car shows , swap meets and racing events in New England , New York , New Jersey and Pennsylvania . The internet came along and folks want to buy stuff on e-bay , MCG and others . Everyone got greedy and thought they could make a fortune by not working for it . You just want to sell a few extra parts , make a couple of $$ and walk away happy . I refuse to use Pay-Pal or e-bay , they are full of rip off artists and/or people who want to make money without working . I suggest you gather up your parts and go to a swap meet , price your parts fairly and deal with people on a heads up basis . A,B & C body parts are getting harder and harder to find and therefore getting more expensive which is good for you . Good luck !

Three or four different markets for three different categories of parts-

Swap meet- large items that are better suited to hand off physically without boxing and shipping. Some high dollar items for the captive market of the meet. Small, inexpensive items where shipping could kill a deal.

Craigslist- again, larger items that are a pain to ship, and things where shipping would kill a deal. be prepared for BS. Things that are not practical to keep loading and unloading to take to swap meets. Do not give out personal phone number or personal email unless you want more junk/spam that you already get.

FxBO- items targeted to specific needs, appealing again to a captive market.

ebay- items that you can pack and ship effectively, that are worth more than the shipping cost and labor involved, and items you want to try to expose to the largest possible market to get the beat price. Be prepared to do your boxing first, so you can have a correct shipping cost.

If you don't take paypal you are missing out on a very large potential market.

To eliminate a lot of trouble, take pictures of the item in the box before it ships. Also, make sure you follow the strict guidelines of packing to satisfy an insurance claim should there be one. A box must have a minimum of 2” of packaging around the item, and the item snugly fit in the box. I satisfy the 2” requirement by lining the inside of the box with 2” of styrofoam, cut from 4x8’ sheets I buy at Home Depot for $14. The pieces are cut to fit the box top and bottom and all sides. Then I wrap the item in a plastic bag, then roll it in bubble wrap, which is usually old swimming pool solar covers that people throw out in the spring if they need a new one. Then nestle (yes, I went there) the wrapped item inside the foam box and tape all of the seams on the box thoroughly! That will satisfy any claim of damage and put it on the shipper. Again, pictures of every step!

You are the free to dispute any and all claims against the buyer for damage, and will have the tracking to prove that it’s been sent, and opt for the email prompts from the shipper as to the status of the package.

I simply keep most packing material from items I buy and reuse it when I ship.

Most items from commercial sellers comes packed in very high grade pillows, foam, etc.
If you have to buy that stuff, it can cut into profits quickly.

I also keep stiff cardboard corner bracing that is sometimes used.
That stuff is great to keep a box from getting crushed.

If shipping a long item, make the box a triangular prism.
MUCH sturdier than a tube, or even a rectangle.

You are exactly right on all points. ( I haven't transferred money out of my paypal account to protect it though. )
That's what you have to do - play by the rules and keep everything documented via ebay correspondence.
I've been too busy to sell lately but I print my own postage from USPS and ebay was ,and maybe still is offering free listings for the seller.
Using readily available packing materials and by getting a discount from USPS you can keep most of if not all of the money you receive from an item. Sell something for 30 bucks-make 30 bucks. Have to operate in the way you described .

Going on 5 years no more PAYpal for similar sour transactions. If you dont investigate the sellers feedback (in my case of 5 years of payment from Personal check.Money order. or big money items bank to bank transaction)..... then find it elsewhere.
Thats why this site was established.... for real mopar people helping others respectively........whether sales, knowledge or experience.
Where else can you find all that?

Dave

Nothing wrong with accepting money via paypal using friends and family. Some buyers want to pay that way, fine by me. Others want items shipped to a non-verified address, no goods or services. I'll send it F&F if I know the person well and even bump up to cover the 3% when paying others for "goods" because I look at it like insurance.

Swaps were always fun when the "finch monsters" would run around trying to snake your parts cheap. Always had a couple sets of prices depending on who was buying... :)

Paypal can be a royal PIA and EBAY has gotten out of hand with fees.

I read your post four times. Each time I get more confused. If the buyer got your parts without paying then there's no one to blame but you. That's not how Paypal works. People send you money for items using Paypal, then you send them stuff. That's how it works. You left out so much information and included so much useless bullshit you sound like a woman posting with her emotions. Suck it up and try again so we can better understand.

unbelievable !!

I think it’s the classic “pay for the parts, then dispute it and PayPal holds your money until it’s settled” routine. That’s why I outlined all of the steps to insure that he has video evidence that the item is what it’s said to be, that it was packaged properly, and that it was sent and delivered. Boom, claim covered!
