Veterans On the Board

Hi cchrishefish,

MY 4th GGrand Father, Joseph Breed fought in the Revolution. His family owned Breeds Hill where the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought. My dad was in WW1. I had family in every war that the US has had. My paternal Grand Mother was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution. I applied for the Son of the Revolution but decided to opt out. I already have an extensive file on my family history and they wanted me prove it their way. It made no sense to me.

Yes, it can be a PIA, I have other reasons for joining. I find some of their activities like handing out awards to ROTC students and Eagle Scouts to be rewarding. And, I like the fact that they mark Revolution ancestor graves with a nice ceremony. They dress in full colonial uniforms at cemetaries and fire muskets, something I have never done. Also my sons will be eligible for college scholarships. They hold parades in Washington DC and other places in colonial uniforms. I will not be able to do everything on their schedule now, but when I retire in 6 years, this could be something to keep me busy.
