OK I have been searching through the threads on how and what is needed to switch over from my 2bbl carb to 4bbl Holly carb on my 273, 904 trans for my 66 upper kick down rod. The kick down rod's that are shown in just about every thread is different than the one that I have on my 66. Here are some pictures of the rod and the accelerator cable stud that was on my 2bbl. I do not see any way to make this set up work on the Holly 4bbl. I know I can order the correct accelerator stud on line but where do I get the correct upper 4bbl rod that slides on the outside of the stud? If any one has one please let me know I do have the accelerator extension bracket from Holly and the commando intake manifold had the correct 4bbl accelerator cable hold down bracket already on it so the cable lines up just right. Look at the pictures, this is what I have now.

Does the rod just need to be longer? You might want to start a parts wanted ad to find the right parts.

The free throttle return slot in upper kick down rod was added for safety reasons, 2 brl, 4 brl, all. I thought it was before 67 but since your 66 does have this rod... ?
Anyway, That explains why most of what you find is different. I would do whatever is needed to have a free throttle return.

I was gonna suggest barrel nutting (or welding if available), some all-thread (or part of a bolt) to the end.

Actually the first kick-down rod is the same for noth models. The difference is the bracket behind the left cylinder head. It has a curve towards the carb instead of pointing upwards.

I would definitely convert it to a slotted style end

See this is what I am talking about. So are you telling me that the kick down bracket that bolts to the back of the drivers side head needs to be removed and replaced with the 340 throttle bracket that is shown in Karls thread. Then I still need to find the slotted upper kick down rod, if you look at the ones in Karls thread they have a good bend in them that bends away from the carb, the one I have is strait and not slotted. Before I start a wanted thread I need to know what I am looking for. I looked at my 1966 service manual disc and it does not show anything for the Barracuda commando 4bbl set up, the only thing it shows is for the 2bbl set up that I have now and it is exactly what I have. Here are a few more pictures of the set up that is on it now, as you can see it is nothing like in the threads on 2bbl to 4bbl conversion.

I would use everything you got just change the rod from carb to bellcrank

I am going to try a wanted ad for the upper rod with the slide. You never know I might get lucky maybe someone out there has one.
Thanks
Bob

Chrysler moved the bell crack assembly from back of head to up onto the intake at same year change of linkage rod ( apparently 1967 ). Bell crank assembly did stay on the back of the head for several more years in AMC builds. Tell you what, If you ever cross thread or break a bolt back there.... bad day.
If you can find the complete assembly, bell crank with throttle cable bracket incorporated, kick down linkage and all... it will bolt right on. Good hunting

I agree. Looks like your 4bbl is on a single plane. Granted I was working with the next gen kickdowns but I used the from a 2 bbl until I switched from a single plane to a dual plane. That's when the angles etc got thrown off too much.
