265 hemi straight six

When the Hemi 6 was launched in Australia, Chrysler advertised the new Hemi-Spherical head as the main feature of the new engine design as it was the easiest way to describe the engine as Australians new of the power of the US Hemi V8. It was just a marketing ploy & it worked. The engines were extremely powerful compared to what was available at the time. The track versions were real performers. a std 265 was no way as quick as a std 340 & was never meant to be.I had both back in the day & my right foot still remembers both of them quit well. That is why I'm spending a small fortune rebuilding a modified 340 6pack at the moment instead of a 265, I want the best of both worlds. You guys seam to be tearing your selves apart over a 40 year old advertising ploy from smooth a Chrysler marketing team. As Slant 6 Dan said Blah Blah Blah.
Well, to further your "Blah blah blah " Not looking through revisionist glasses: I'm not fizzing at the bum, to put a misconception to bed, there were VERY FEW Mopar Hemis in Australia of any kind & those that were ,were soon snapped up for fledgling drag racing, boats & some speedway/circuit. Almost ALL of your mid-late '50s Finned molars were Poly engines in lowley Plymouth Savoy's, those that weren't Flathead 6's ! ( a jewel of a series of engines) 2/ Do you also realise your local market 340's. Even in Chargers, had the Pedestrian 318ci Cam ,As it was at the height of the "Supercar scare" & politicians leaned on Big 3 to cut out the 145+mph top speeds, Caused GMH to shelf the Holden hurricane too, with all the scare mongering.

The "Hemi Head" was NO more an advertising ploy that Ford Falcon's XD " Alloy Head ".
As a Published writer I've driven plenty of both too & the accelerometer doesn't lie.
