1968 Barracuda 4 speed . clutch and brake peddles do not line up.. although clutch returns to rubber bumper and brake turns off brake lights at switch under dash .. clutch peddle is about 1 1/2 inches lower than brake .. could one be bent or is this common . Brake peddle seems a littl e high up and clutch feel right ..

What are the pedals out of? Are they both from the same car?

I have trouble imagining a force great enough to bend one of those pedals.

As to the brake pedal height;
The first inch or so gets used up in closing the Compensating port.
Then the next 2 to maybe 3 inches get used up in normal braking.
Then you need another 2 to 3 for the emergency system to work, if one end suffers a catastrophic failure.
So, I'm gonna guess you need a minimum of 5 inches of travel, to perhaps as much as 7; I've never actually measured mine.

As to the clutch pedal height;
The first inch or so gets used up in freeplay and slack.
Then, depending on your clutch type,and linkage application, you need 2 or 3 inches to generate adequate clutch departure. So this pedal only needs about 3 to 4 inches, to get the job done. You only need to press it down far enough to allow a non-clashing reverse engagement. After the car is moving, it requires even less pedal to allow any forward shifts.

I think my clutch pedal is actually a tad higher...... but I just can't recall,for sure, lol.

Both pedals have a return stop and should be even at that point. If your pedals are uneven, I would have to think that one of them is not returned to it's stop. Which one?

Might be clutch adjustment. These old girls only have one, the threaded rod at the bell/ fork. As old as these girls are, if you can't be certain the linkage is all original, I would not "not" expect this. In the early 70's, I swapped a diaphragm into my 70RR with a 340 swapped in. It had power disk brakes. There is no friggin way the two pedals were level, and especially with the difference in clutch types.

I have an uncle that peddles Life insurance. He drives cars with two pedals. One for the brake, the other for the accelerator.

Are both pedals sitting on their stops when not in use? Clutch adjusted for proper engagement? Dont worry about it, drive the car. I dont think i have ever seen the pedals line up exactly on these cars ever.

Both peddles are at their stops .with the clutch peddle an inch lower than the brake. All works great just doesn't look good .Brake peddle seems a bit high but is sitting on brake light switch as it should..guess i'll leave it as is. I know it's factory because I've known the car since new ..thanks

Adjustable brake push Rod?To get the height equal

That would work, but you want to make sure you don’t limit your ability to fully apply the brakes. Lower the pedal too much and you might not get a full application.
