70 up will have the timing marks correct to the 72 damper, but now he will have to swap out the radiator. You always should check TDC. I have seen them very far out, some more than 10 degrees.

Not really, you can still run the newer cover and find the older bolt on timing tab or make your own Then install timing tape. You will need the older water pump. Exactly what I'm running. You can actually run the old pump with the newer cover and dampener, just makes the timing marks harder to see but not impossible. Harder if it has power steering, but again not impossible.
