Tire width

I have no idea, but... What diameter wheel? Assuming this is with no mods to body/suspension... Are you set on using a particular wheel or will that change to get the widest tire?
Here's a good tool for seeing how tires actually compare in size

255 stock, if you relocate the springs some have 275's, what are your plans?

How about a little more information? Stock spring location? Size of rims and backspacing? Lowered suspension? Anything??

I have BFG 255/60/15 on the back of my '69 Dart with 8" wide rims and a 4.5" off set. I did (many years ago) roll the wheel well lips. It makes it a close fit to the quarter panel but no rubbing and there's about 1" to the leaf spring. After putting in my new 418 stroker, I find that the BF Goodrich's are woefully inadequate I just ordered a set of jegs chrome wheels that look a whole lot like my Summit wheels that are on the car right now. I don't know why but I always seem to buy the item that they discontinue so I have to buy the Jegs wheels that look close. I also ordered a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S Drag Radials.255/60/15. The specs are almost identical to the BFG's.

You might have to roll your wheel well lips. I will let you know how my Jegs rims and Mickey's fit. Should be here on Monday. Might have them on by weekend.

With the springs under the frame, I have 29x10.5x15 With a different back space I could easy go a few inches more.

Max I think would be 29x12.5x15? If you went low profile you could get more but my slicks are about 14" at the widest point. After that you gotta back half the car.

(EDIT- Just noticed your springs are not moved. Disregard my info.)

Stock spring set up and stock 5.5 inch wide 14 inch rallyes (or if you want to be correct for your 69 - 5.5 inch steel wheels that came on GTs) take a 245-60-14 tire with no problems. Plenty of traction for your/6... I think BFG TA radials are the only easily available source. A set of 205-70 14s on the front will have close to the same sidewall height for the front.
