I don't know what your Grand Cherokee is down under but here its a a completely different platform than the Grand Wagoneer.
Grand Wagoneer was the last submodel produced of the SJ wagoneers and J-trucks. 1991 was the end for all practical purposes.
Grand Cherokees here in North America are a Chrysler drivetrain. I guarentee they don't have an AMC v-8.
The AMC 360 is in the same family as the 304, etc.
The AMC 360 heads always had the dog leg exhaust ports and bridged rockers.
The only Chryslerish item that I know of that can physically bolt to the block is a Torqueflite made with the AMC bellhousing.
Take a look at the Head bolt locations on the AMC 360 and compare with a Chrysler LA.
also notice the exhaust bolt pattern vs. the Chrysler below.
Below is an AMC 360 again.
AMC did have some interesting engine options, and export options were not the same as US and Canadian.
For example the '84-87 parts book shows an Isuzu diesel - I think that was an export only option - but would have to check.
