Hi All, I have spent the morning trying to find and read 4 speed swap threads and have yet ot find, clearly, information on the z bar bracket.
It seems there is a hole on the frame (pictured) but that you don't want to use just that. Do I have to weld the bracket (pictured) and if so, in what orientation?

The car is currently in a garage where welding isn't all that possible, engine out. Is it possible to get the car going by using just the hole in the frame rail and driving it 30 minutes to a place with a lift/welder?

Thanks all.

Yes , you must use the stiffener bracket. The results of not using it are clearly seen in the photo. The factory welded them in.

What the others said plus the one that mounts to the bellhousing of which there are two designs, one up to 71' and 72' and up. So know what year bellhousing you have to get the correct one.

Another example, halfway down the page. There are two diagrams and a photo. The bracket in the diagrams are different as opposed to the photo. The photo, is like Dan's above. It's what I would do for stock application. For a heavier clutch set you might consider a stronger custom bracket.

I did over kill.
I just welded a 1/8 inch steel plate.
No worries for it braking threw. When I got my car it was three on the floor. And that bracket you was showing had already pulled threw.
