Anyone know about this EPA ban on methylene chloride ?
Does anyone know anything that works as good for removing paint?

Damn, that **** is toxic! Must be why it worked so good...So what is affected? I saw Goo-Gone as one, was Aircraft stripper affected? Ace says they will phase out July '19 if you need to stock up.

Personally, I have never liked paint strippers. When there are multiple layers of paint, multiple applications are usually needed.
Care must be taken to keep off chrome, stainless and plastic parts. I use 40 grit hog paper on a thick flexible pad with a
buffer. Fairly low RPM and follow up with 80 grit on a DA. And don't forget the nasty residue that has to absolutely cleaned
up when using stripper and the toxicity of the product itself.

I use it on things like valve covers, oil pans, front covers, balancers things that you can't sand on in tight places and don't want to sand off cast in date codes and so on.

I also use it on the old stuck on Holley carb gaskets, it works great

Aircraft stripper is what they were talking about, if Ace has it I'm going to get a gal or 2

Aircraft stripper is an excellent product, if you had something with 3 layers of paint you could get that, that was thick and would cling until the paint could be washed off with water. I went 2 weeks ago to get a gallon, auto zone, advanced auto and Oriellys , none to be found , went to ACE hardware, they said they couldn't get it in gallons but they had a new type in the spray paint, it has a black lid ,like black spray paint but says Aircraft Stripper, i bought 2 spray cans, but i can tell you, its not even close to the old stuff, sprayed my rear differential, waited about 30 minutes, still looked like i had sprayed ice on it, i let it set over night, it did remove some of the paint , but regular paint stripper is cheaper and will do just as a good job.

Honestly every time I have used it over the last 4 years I have said to myself "I can't believe this stuff is still legal to sell" cause' it IS nasty stuff but works SO GREAT. Guess I jinxed myself.....

Be careful if you stock up on it. Every can I have stored for long periods ends up rusting through and leaking out.

Such a labor and material saver. Outlawing it is probably backed by 3M.

I guess be happy we got that.
I remember back in the 80s the stuff I brush-on and about 10 minutes later was laying on the floor....
Probably the reason my brain is the way it is.lol

From what I have recently read on the subject, the EPA can not completely ban the stripper because it is already controlled by other government agencies. OSHA. The box stores are removing the products from their own discernment process.

the paint was laying on the floor or you were laying on the floor? lol

If you do decide to stock up, get the largest Mason jars and store it in those. It won't rust through glass.

A couple years back a friends grandpa thought it would be a good idea to buy a $500 ford bronco 2,fix it up,repaint it,and sell it for 5K...So he enlisted myself and my friends help to strip the paint off and we used some of that stuff.I could take about a minute and half with out a respirator before I was out to lunch, or about 15 minutes with a respirator. I learned a couple things: that stuff will knock wasps out of the air from 5 ft away, and somehow flies are immune to it.It was the strangest thing to see a wasp flying along about 8 ft off the ground and as soon as it got above the hood it crashed into the hood-dead.Flies on the other hand would flie around the hood and finally land on the hood in the molten paint and then fly off again no worse for the ware...but life gets in the way so that bronco 2 is still sitting in the barn missing paint, just needs scuffed up for paint/primer to stick...

Man I hope not I use it daily. Did notice aircraft stripper is now unobtainable!
