As the subject line would suggest, I have a '72 Scamp and some '70-'71 Dart marker lights I'd like to use instead of the surface mount markers.

Reason/background: @moparmat2000 did a solid for me and helped pull a pair of quarters off a '71 Scamp for my '72 because mine are rotten and crappy...he also provided a set of '71 rear markers to go in the '71 quarters. After some thought, I discovered I prefer the flush mounts to the surface mounts so I started looking for a matching set or front markers. I couldn't find a set for a '71 Scamp/Duster that weren't ridiculously priced or complete so I found a set of 70-71 Dart markers.

So, what are the ways I can go about this? What are the pros/cons of the varying methods?

I figure I can either:
A: look for the pieces out of a '70-71 Dart/Demon and splice them into my fenders, but finding one where the fenders are even there let alone in good enough shape to pirate is probably unlikely, this leads me to option B...

B: Mark off/cut out, and flange/joggle the holes to accept the markers. To that end, I have a pneumatic flanging tool, but I don't know if it will actually provide the correct inset. If I need a different flanging tool, which one would work well for that purpose?

Anyone whose done this, I'd like to see photos, ya know...pictures...thousand words and all that jazz...

I think i remember seeing a kit somewhere online that was sheetmetal stampings for converting a 72-74 challengers side markers to the more desirable looking 70-71. Not sure if 70-71 demon front fender marker lights are the same as a 70-71 challenger, but if they are, or are similar, and you can find the kit, then your all set.

Found it. Not sure if the challenger markers are the same as a demon/dart or not. You will have to research it farther to be sure. PGclassics has the front fender marker light patches for a challenger as a pair for $60.

BTW Txstang84, i just finished up putting a hurst in my 94 pickup today. Damn night and day difference. Close from gear to gear, and rifle bolt solid. Its got that classic white ball and chrome stick. Cant believe i was shifting that spoon and oatmeal feeling baseball bat factory **** for 25 years prior to today.

Hey Matt, just perusing some google images, it looks like they are slightly different-like the angle on the right side is more vertical and in the opposite direction. This was the method I wanted to use, but for some reason, I can't seem to find those patches...think I'm just using the wrong search terms.

As far as the shifter, I didn't realize your pickup was a stick-that said I'm not even a little surprised. After the first time buying an aftermarket shifter, I won't stay with a stock one again if I have a choice...

They are not the same as Challenger. You are going to have to fabricate. Maybe somebody such as whitepunkonnitro may have some from a car he parted out. I have saved some 72 style, but never come across 70/1 that I could cut out.......yet!

That's what I figured-I did go look for some and found a link in the classifieds from @whitepunkonnitro , but the link was from about 2-3 years ago...

I also found these:

FOR SALE - 70-71 challenger front side marker set

I guess I could buy these and buy the patches too...more options...

Question though is, are the A body 70-71 rear markers shaped differently than the A body dart front markers ? If they are, then whitepunkonnitros rear patches arent going to be useful to you on the front.

Txstang84, maybe if you have access to a nice hydraulic press we could make some male and female dies out of some hardwood and press out a pair. I have a 4'x4' sheet of automotive sheetmetal thats same gage as fender metal. Its worth a shot.

I think* he said he had others, and if nothing else, Tony has a tendency of having things he hasn't necessarily offered up for sale...

As far as making some negatives, I'm down to give that a shot

Yeah, he said quarters and fenders...so, that tells me both front and rear. Regardless, the last time I emailed him about anything, I never received a response. I've bought from Tony in the past and wasn't disappointed, so...I figured he's probably just busy or something...

I dont have much time to make pieces, but can probably make the facings for the dies out of aluminum.

Your best bet is to cut some from some junk fenders. The marker light area is usually ok as far as rust goes so im sure there are some rusty fenders out there that would donate them.
Front and rear should be the same size.
You might want to check the location of the 72 marker light compared to the earlier ones. I think they are in a slightly different location so the original hole may need to be patched if you want to be totally correct.

Totally agree; I just want them to look like they go there. There’s a set of Duster marker buckets in the classifieds but they need the lenses and I’ve already bought a good Dart set.

It’s hard enough finding a 70-71 Dart around Abilene let alone one with decent enough fenders to pirate the patch from...

gdrill, if you still have those cutouts, lemme know and I’ll pay you for them.

front & rear 1970-1 side markers are same size. up here in the rust belt those are probably only thing left on my fenders!!!! let me know as the snow has melted for now and I would need to remove fender extension, first
