I went to park on a hill yesterday and I wasn't fully ingaugeing the parking gear.

Today I adjusted the cable and realized I have a dumb question.

With the B&M pro ratchet shifter is neutral a lock out gear or just reverse and park?

It seems like N should require me to flip the lever but I honestly dont recall if I use to have to move it for N or just park and reverse.

I installed a new RMVB a few days ago and now I'm wondering if my linkage is way off or if I'm just not remembering.

I do have all gears working so I think I got it right but figured I'd ask anyway.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok thanks. I kinda figured if it was that far off it wouldn't work but just wanted to make sure.

Thank you.

I used to run a b/m proratchet in my 406 vega, I hated that dam thing, I had to ratchet back to neutral to clean the engine out after my burnouts. the lockout was for park and reverse only. Was it screwed up or made wrong? I never had trouble with the gear position adjustments tho. ?????

I'll tell ya what else I dislike about the BM shifters. They use a VERY short throw compared to the Cheetah ones, meaning, that a very small percentage of throw error in the shifter and cable makes a BIG difference at the transmission end. this means that the margin of error in the shifter gate and cable for missing a detent/ position at the shifter end is much greater, much more critical.

To put this another way, the cable movement for a given change at the transmission is shorter in the BM than it is in the Cheetah, and is make up by the special lever used at the transmission. This makes adjustments, and problems due to "slop" and wear much more evident with the BM

I don't remember what I had.........used the big trigger device on the handle?

I actually realy like the pro ratchet.

Pops has the B&M Pro stick and I hate it.

I dont like that it moves away as I shift. (His car is FMVB)

I like the fact the the ratchet stays in the same place relative to my seat. My hand never actually moved. I just pull the handle.

I find with the pro stick I'm "reaching" for the shifter.

I guess "Pro Stick" is what I had. But if you compare the lever lengths at the transmission between BM and Cheetah you'll see what I mean

Agreed.. I love how it stays in place. Clean positive shifts.

Also if and when I decide go to air shifting my pro ratchet allows the air shifter to bolt right up.

Pro stick=nope...

The old Quick Klik was my favorite shifter. The Pro Ratchet is an updated version with the reverse lockout whereas the Quick Klik didn't have that.

While probably not a full race shifter I always liked the Quicksilver. I've had a couple over the years and like them I never had a problem with them.
Like almost all of my recommendations they are get the one that the driver/owner likes the best...

The pro ratchet just works for me.
I installed a cheeta , moved up and back in the orig. console. It took some getting used to , to operate , but I think it may be the best I`ve ever used , no complaints on the dragstrip either . I do imagine 'IF' some one wanted to put an air shifter on it, it could be done w/ a little southern egineering-

Or northern egineering if you want it done right and win...:poke:

My first car was a 72 318 duster. I put a Quik Klik in it and loved it! Paid $75 for it new.[the shifter, not the duster] I have also used a Pro Ratchet and it was great too.

Started with a mega shifter. Switched to a pro stick (didn’t like it)
Quicksilver is my new favorite.

I have a quick silver in mine. Like it a lot. Also an anti theft device, kind of like a manual transmission anymore. A lot of people don’t know how to work it.

No one has answered my question : did u use the pro ratchet on the dragstrip, and did u have to "ratchet" back to nuetral to clean out before staging ?? --I did, that's why I don`t like them . Wondering if mine was messed up ! ??

I think if you had to shift back to neutral to clean out the engine, you need to work on the carburator.

You evedently never watch dragracing, a bunch of people do it . If u ever ran a hemi w/ a rat roaster intake , you would develop the habit !!

Thanks, for the advise.
I have been to a drag race before, I started in 1964, I have set several NHRA national records and won many national event class trophys and built many carburators. I used to "clean the engine out" back in the 70's but haven't needed to since, not so good for your engine. I do have a cheeta shifter for sale on here if thats what you want. I'll post a picture of my cars, thanks for the help.

Pro Ratchet moves one position at a time, no matter which way you are shifting. If you have reverse manual valve body and just did a burnout, you must ratchet three positions to get to neutral. No way around it.
