Was planning a turn left (mid-block) into a business driveway on a four-lane city boulevard with no two-way left turn lane--stuck my left arm out the window (in addition to my turn signal). I hoped other drivers were paying attention.

Most drivers wouldn't have a clue. Just us old farts! LOL

We got people that will do the same (mid block left turn) and wont even use their blinker, they just stop in the 'fast' lane...city life, people just come to expect that ****.

Hell around here you are lucky if they use their "blinker" much less hand signals. Once, every once in awhile, I see someone signal "stop" in a tight situation, but that is rare.

I admit that at times I use another form of binary digital signaling.

I got a ticket for not having turn signals on an old farm trailer with a triangulated yield sign attached, and despite using hand signals still got a ticket. I told the cop I was within the law and that the triangulated sign was legal and so were hand signals. He informed me that not everybody knew what hand signals meant, at which point I informed him that it was my job to obey the law, not teach others about the law. Had to go to court to fight it, and I told the judge and the cop who was present the same thing again, and the ticket was dismissed.

"USED TO BE" hand signalling was required learning for both a learner's license and a driver's license. Is it not anymore, or do people "just forget"?

I was driving my sister in-law's 72 Nova had been working on it for her, there was a state trooper behind me and her signals didn't work so I gave a hand signal for a right turn, he followed me in and pulled me over. Told me it was legal but gave me a warning to get it fixed. I always wondered why if it was legal why get a warning, guess because it came with signals and they weren't working.

Stick a arm out the window these days and you could draw back a nub.
"Keep arms and legs inside the ride at all times"

I still use hand signals when riding the chopper, but most people don't know what they are anymore.

Since it appears most people don't attend driver's education anymore, I doubt most people know very many driving laws.

When we are out offroad riding we will signal with fingers how many people are behind us so oncoming riders know what is coming.
Most of the time people just look at you like they have no idea why you just held up three fingers, or give you the peace sign.
One guy got all pissed of because he thought one of our group flipped him off.:D

How many of them know that 3 stripes of lime on the ground or 3 rocks stacked on top of each other means "SLOW THE %^&K DOWN OR EAT S$%^"
I actually saw a bicyclist signal a left hand turn yesterday, I was shocked. Of course he also ran the Stop sign

I saw 2 kids on bicycles one kid signaled the other one didn't.
The kid who signaled chewed the one who didn't out.
I laughed, thought that a boy let him have it good.

I almost exclusively use hand signals because my arm is almost always out the window, and that's the same side the turn signal lever is on.

Also,

I HATE bicyclists. The stupid bastards love to ride tandem and block traffic at 10 mph on roads with double yellow lines. AND, they do not stay to the right of the white line. If I were a cop, I'd probably give out as many moving violations for bicycles as cars.

:grumpymotherfucker:

Bicyclists are entitled in Ca. You know that well. Exempt from all traffic laws, or so they think. It's a four wheeled world out there and cars/trucks outweigh bicycles by a whole bunch. Bicycle always loses. I had a mixer driver get a 502 while he was on his bicycle, cost him his job and the usual mountain of money involved in a DUI. Judge said "Bicycles are wheeled vehicles. The ticket stands." I ride my Honda like it has 4 wheels, fitting in with the 4 wheelers makes it safer, in my mind anyway.
