Another small block turbo early valiant

I don’t see getting around cutting the hood. I’ll probably end up getting a better hat. I appreciate they input. What do you run for ignition? Will a stock electronic ignition work or is a Cdi box worth putting in? I’ve got a 6AL but might just go back to mopar electronic if I will do.

I have run the MSD 6AL on everything. I love them but on my recent turbo build I am using the Holley distributorless ignition. So far I love it especially not having to deal with the plug wires on the distributor. If you the mopar ignition then you’ll have to close the gap on the plugs to keep them from not sparking under pressure.

I’m running a 6al also. Just run a limiter in the distributor to limit total advance. 4 seconds flat makes a nice one.

Yeah the MSD distributors are nice when you can tailor your curve to what you need. Although the damn inside of the distributor always rusts like its at the bottom of the ocean.

Ok guys I decided to ditch the turbo I had to go with something I knew more about. I'm looking at CXRacing turbo's and thinking on something along the lines of this T4 T76 0.81 A/R. Am I on the right track or is there a better option?

Items included in this Item:
Ball Bearing T76 .81 A/R P Trim Turbocharger x1
Oil Feed -AN4 Fitting x1
Oil Drain Flange x1
Gaskets x2

Tech Specs:
Air Inlet: 4"
Compressed Air Outlet: 2.5"
Bearing: Dual Ball Bearing
Turbine Housing Flange: Standard T4
Exhaust Outlet: 3" V-band Outlet
HP Rating: 800 HP
Cooling: Oil Cooled
Working Pressure: 25 PSI
Compressor: Billet Wheel
Turbine: .81 A/R
Compressor Wheel: 76.7/102.4 MM
Turbine Wheel: 74.1 /64.6 MM

Decided on this VS Racing 78/75 billet turbo .96 ar. Much smaller overall and lighter this will make the hot side much easier to fab up.

Why do you have the close he gap on the plugs, and how much?

Good question. The mopar ignition is not meant to fire in extreme pressure situations. Closing the gap help the lower voltage ignitions get the spark across the gap when there is a ton of air and fuel crammed into the cylinder.

Bill Dedman would have liked this build. May he rest in peace.

What if you were to run an hei fired thru a stock distributor?

Do you already have the turbo kit installed already? Been wanting to turbo my 65 barracuda. Still poking at the idea

Kinda but on hold for a little while while we welcomed our 3rd girl home. Also I wanted to take a break before I completely lost all interest and did something stupid like sold it. Lol.

This is an absolute killer deal! But there would be so much for me to change and don’t feel like it would be cost effective for my single turbo setup. Also when you get into the early a bodies you loose quite a bit or workable space.
I don’t think it work very well in an early a. Looking at the pictures he posted it seems like a tight fit in a later a abody.

What are you using for turbo manifolds?

I’ve got a friend that is a great fabricator and we are looking at either magnum manifolds or building some type of log header. Still working on some of the details.

Well there’s been a little done from time to time. I put magnum manifolds on it and wasn’t in love it. Started looking around and found that the Jeep Cherokee v8 manifolds are similar. After finding a pair and the passenger side not working I decided to see how a standard passenger center exit manifold would do. Got to this point and I kinda like this and will be looking into it a little closer. Also working on figuring out alternator brackets and figment.

Also seam sealed the areas in the trunk after the mini tub, cleaned it up and used Eastwood’s splatter paint. I think it turned out pretty nice. Working on some of the wiring too.

what did you not like about the flipped magnums? Any clearance issues? I got a set I bought for my turbo build but have not done anything with it since then.

I didn’t like how close the drivers side is to the alternator, and the passenger side was really close to the frame rail. Lastly having to try and figure out a pretty sharp 180 degree bend from the manifold exit to the turbo. I haven’t 100% made up my mind quite yet but I like how these other manifolds are looking so far.

I know when maddart made his kit he clearanced the frame a bit for the piping, or he also used the headman truck headers for his set up he did, I ended up going a different path turbo set up. But he just spaced the engine up 1/4".

I tried hard to look into that option but I didn’t see how it was going to work on the drivers side with the steering box. Not sure the exact placement on the newer body’s but I figured the collector would hit or be right at the box.

Yeah not sure either. You'll get it figured, I'm waiting for a few pieces to finish my twin turbo exhaust, see how I need to route it lol.
