I can apprciate how completion times could put him in the trick bag........and for him, he probably doesn't need them. More than likely, he has more paying customers than he can do a quality job for. With GYC.....cars in his shop do not seem to stand still just collecting dust taking up space.

I learned the lesson regarding completion times a few house builds ago.....whenever my wife would ask (even at the start) when it will be done? My standard answer was....2 weeks. It took her a while, but she finally got the message. I told her all that mattered is that I am working on it and moving forward. My preference is it be done right....not right now.
When friends And family ask me that question, when will it be done? My reply is baby steps and when it's done. Nothing bothers me more then being asked that question. Especially when I am always working on it! It's always the peolpe who have no idea what it takes to do this type of work. Can't wait to see your car.. should be real nice!

I agree, don't need them cutting corners to meet a deadline.

cutting corners....great trick tried by many contractors because they cannot meet the time frame THEY set..
I commonly respond..."nice try"

I don't know how much patience, I have bought 8 cars since then (sold 5 of them). I had a line on an original set but they needed new chrome. In the end he chose to buy a new set of 1969 reproduction ones from AMD and have them chromed.

Likely the best option and understand the early issues with the AMD covers have been fixed. Look forward to seeing it finished and hopefully on my TV.

**** happens.....what would really suck is if they try to bill you to fix it

Just noticed that.

While shown previously in the yard it was not there. Even when Tony and Mark were going over it.

No, I think they did it at the shop with a forklift, sucks.
Yep, I noticed it after looking at previous pics of the car. Why would they lift it from there? Seems amateurish, wonder if Mark did his wtf dance?

I happened to watch a video the other day about the different types of dipping and what caught my eye was the way they secured the car for dipping and was wondering about just that type of problem. Anyway it can and will be fixed.

I had my silver Hemi Duster body dipped and e-coated....dippers were pros , but the e-coat idiots picked up the body with forkin lift and dicked it up just like yours.....even though I had installed eye hooks thru the front and rear frame rails and pointed them out to eliminate this problem. I had pictures of the body when we left the dippers with no damage and went directly to the e-coaters.

I sent them a bill for the repair....$1500....they paid it. I guess their $900 e-coat job wasn't so profitable on this one......morons

That's enough to make you sick, Who did the dipping and E coat for you and are they still around? That's why I had been watching the vids on the process, but can't find anyone on the East Coast. The vid I watched had a tank barely large enough for the car which if I remember was a '57 Chevy.

dipper is American Metal Finishing in Toledo, Ohio...and they are still there. They dipped some components for me but not the car on the Leal B/MP HemiDuster restoration....but I do not know about the e-coaters. The body shop I use is using a different place in Fremont, Ohio last we talked dipping 5 years ago.

sorry for the hi-jack....should of PMed

I agree, sorry for the hi-jack

In case you guys didn't catch it, here is a recent clip from the show.

You really have lots of patience!

I waited right at 2 years just to get my empty shell back, had lots to do in that time but ran out of ways to continue without the shell. I hope you are as satisfied in getting it back as I was.

Is GYC doing turn key?

That is the plan. We made a deal to do a complete restoration in two years for a set price. That time-frame has obviously come and gone but I am sticking to my part of not pestering him and not making any changes.

I saw the episode where they put the rust free front clip on 'that the owner supplied'. Saw them do some 1/4 panel work too. You have to be super excited seeing the progress. I hope they feature you taking delivery of the finished car once it's done.

I am starting to get excited even though I have had to condition myself to not think about it. The used front clip was needed because at the time, those parts were not available. The previous owner had collected it and it was in the deal when I bought the car so I made the decision to utilize it. Mark sent me a message a week ago to tell me they had the car off of the jig and onto a rotisserie for body work. Instrument Specialties just finished the dash. It's getting closer. He said it will be completed this year for sure.

It has been a long time but I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
