I currently have a PCV on my drivers side valve cover, and a open breather with no hose to the air cleaner. I have a aftermarket air cleaner with stamped holes for a crankcase breather fitting that I want to hook up. I noticed that hose will connect on the inside of the air cleaner unlike the factory setup this located on the outside of the air filter. Is some kind of filter needed on the inside? Will oil vapors mess anything up? Your opinions wanted.

I have my 460 set up with the hose inside the filter and is strictly street driven. No issues. The vent will either be pulling a vacuum or pushing air at high rpm and the carburetor will be drawing as much air as it can sucking in all the oil vapors that hopefully get burned up. Now you tune may change slightly as the vapor will dilute the mixture. There are valve cover breathers that have an oil sperators to prevent oil from crawling up.

Thanks Dano. Any names for those oil separating oil breathers

most have a mesh screen in them to 'collect' oil. My oil breather on the valve cover has this screen - there is no screen on the inside of the air filter. As far as the breathers, they have push in and twist in types, with and without nipple for tube, depending on your application. fwiw.

I would rather have it on the inside because the PCV will suck air through the engine most of the time and you want it to be filtered air not dusty outside air.

The PCV tube should have a fiber filter inside the air cleaner if the tube enters outside the filter perimeter. That looks like a unsilenced air cleaner with an open bottom? Breathers that don't use an air cleaner extension hose have similar media inside that traps oil vapor and uses that oil bath as an incoming air filter when the crankcase is pulling air.

Ok, I get it. Most of the time the oil breather is letting air into the engine and it gets pulled out the pcv. So the oil breather hose on the inside of the filter actually pulls air in through the filter first. I have a unsilenced 14" air cleaner.
