I have a 1968 dart two door post I live in Florida I need someone to tell me how I can get a title for my car so first off
I bought the car from one of the members on here but he only had a open title for a parts car and I have put way to much money is this car to get it expounded for switching # so
I need to know how to get a title now yes I have called the dmv and they talk some other language one tells me no and the other says bring it to me with all the receipts For ever part that is not original To the car ya right
The title company out there is talking $500 to $1000 for a new title
No vin on the car dmv will not except a parcel number off rad support and it has new rear quarters on it so no number there if you can help plz let me know

If there's no VIN I don't know how you'll do it. You bought the car without a VIN?

The parts car had a clean dash so I used it I found a vin on a wire tide to a bolt for the master cyl but it don’t match any of the numbers on rad support
The member i got it from said to use the numbers on the parts car and the title to tag and insure it but like I said I have put a ton of money in it and would be beyond pissed if I lost it over a bad idea like that and the jail time would suck too

It's against the law to use one car's VIN on another so I don't know what your solution is. Does it have a fender tag?

No it doesn’t have inner finder panels at all
This car was being built for drag racing and all the stuff that has weight on it has been taken off
I got it and I have been down the race track and and it was awesome but it is so much more fun to hang out with others at a hamburger joint and that’s what I want to use it for I have a detuned 440 in it sounds bad as hell but just sounds that way
So just looking to tag it so I can drive it

Go to your local county Sheriff's office and tell them about the car. Here. when we build something "off the map" like something completely home built, we have to get the Sheriffs department out to inspect it and they'll issue a VIN at that time. You might need to do something like that, OR you may be faced with tracking down previous owners until you can luck up on some paperwork with the VIN on it. To my knowledge, you will not be able to tag it without a VIN.

Look under the rear deck.

Oklahoma would also require a VIN inspection on it. I’ve had to do that with title 42’s and cars purchased from out of state. Not sure how Florida works.

The VIN inspection would be impossible without the key element, the VIN tag!

Here is my $0.02. Unless you get real lucky, you have nothing but a parts car. I have not had much luck with DMVs. If they CAN tell you no, they usually will. I hope you don't have too much money tied up in it. FWIW, you can make a lot of money parting out a car.
Don't get me wrong; I truly wish you luck, but I don't see a title in your future.

I was really blessed with my deal. A car that had not been run or tagged since 1982, I was skiddish of course. But Wally was great to work with. He is administrator for his cousin's estate who owned the car. Here I was thinkin "yeah the DMV is gonna make it hell for me." But Wally had all the is dotted and ts crossed and now I have a clean Georgia title in my name. I do agree that they will tell you no if they can. I think all the paperwork I had though had them be the nads. Even they couldn't believe the system let them title a 64 model car.

If it has no VIN at all, and you replaced the dash with another with a VIN tag on it, and have some paperwork for that VIN, why not just register it under that VIN? It will get you a plate that allows you to drive the car, and would probably never be questioned. Unless it’s a high dollar car that would be scrutinized, I doubt anyone would even care. Legal or not, it is a car with a VIN, registered that way, and would be in your name.

whats another $500-$1000 at this point? if it will get you usable paper work, just do it. Personally I would avoid the DMV hassle. As long as the "title company" is legit getting you a usable title that WILL NOT BE QUESTIONED at the DMV, just do it.

This is why when I buy a car I'm planning to build and drive, I get it titled before I start working on it. That way, when I'm ready to drive it, the DMV is not an issue as I'm only going for tags at drive time.

Even if I was building a strip only car, I'd get a title so nobody can claim it as their own.

If I buy one as a parts car, the title either goes with the remains when I'm done scavenging what I want from it, or gets shredded when I throw the remains away.

I think you can get the DMV to issue you a VIN number for the car providing you can prove it's not stolen - bill of sale. Then you would have to hand stamp those numbers on the frame of the car.

How do builders of rat rods, kit cars or any home built vehicle title them? Should be no difference.

I think you May have a point will check and see what they say

You can apply for a state issued VIN, the DMV should have a form to fill out to start the process.

It is a pain here in WV to get any old car titled in your name, even if you have a clear title.
The DMV kicks all old car titles back and requires a vin number check and extra paperwork filled out by a local police officer.
I just went thru their BS titling a 70 Cuda.
And you had better make sure it is notery stamp on it.

Here is a good reason to buy cars with titles! Even non title states like Ga. have made it harder to title them with the real vins!!!!!
All I can say is WOW

Having had to jump through burning hoops to get a title for a 43 Chevy truck, I can tell you it's likely possible to get a legal, legitimate title. I can also tell you it won't likely be done quickly, or cheaply. Where there's a will, there's a way, they say. From my experience, I'd jump at the opportunity to get a title for only 500 bucks. I probably paid 3 times that, and the process took damn near a whole year, and three inspections! And they say it's easier here in Arizona!
I learned that I will never buy another vehicle that does not come with a notarized clear title, regardless how good the deal is.

You're not wrong! They told me at first, You cannot title that because of its age. But I had everything. I just asked them, "run it through the system and see what it says." They did and it came back as a titleable car. Now I have a title. Sometimes you have to make sure they think outside the box.

Laws vary greatly from state to state. Around me , In Kansas it is pretty easy, Missouri is very difficult. Research you state laws.

PA is pretty easy, they didn’t even check the VIN on my GTS when I brought it here from MO.

Even without a title, it’s not very hard as they will issue a new “PA Special” VIN plate without very many hoops to go through to get it.

I have built 3 rat rods here in the state of Florida from scratch. And titled each one different.

#1. First one I titled with an AFP title (assembled from parts) Had to fill out a few forms from the DMV and have receipts for all major components such as engine, trans , rearend, along with some from the parts stores. Make an appointment for an inspection with a DMV inspector from Tallahassee . She came to my local DMV (it took a few weeks) made the inspection, looked over the receipts. Tallied up sales tax that she felt I owed ( on the used swap meet parts ect.) Gave me a new AFP title. No safety inspection what-so-ever.

#2 Bought a 39 chevy body (front half of a 4 door) with front sub frame And it had a title. Built the rat rod and just used the title that came with car. No ??? asked!

#3 Built 3rd rat rod , got a title from a guy for a 31 ford sedan. Made VIN tag myself had some lady notarize some form ( maybe from DMV, can't remember) stating VIN tag matched title. (She had no clue what she was looking at). Took old title and notarized form to DMV for new title and tags . The lady at the DMV had to verify the VIN tag out in the parking lot saw the rat rod asked me what part of this thing is the 31 ford. Blew some smoke up her *** and got A new title and plates.

So it can be done in Florida.Well this was about 7 years ago.
They do the AFP title alot on home made boats , trailers ,Bikes ect. Kinda pain in the butt .

Ifigure rat rods and muscle cars or even period cars from the 60;s is a different duck to most buyers. Rat rods are many times a combination of cars of different years maybe, where IF I buy a 60 something car, even though it is not a "426 hemi" car, I want the title, vin, and body stampings to be right, because one day I will sell it.
