Are the automatic and manual slant crankshafts like their V8 counterparts? In other words, will I need to drill an automatic slant crankshaft for a manual transmission? Thank you.

Depends what you consider as " later" (70s, 80s) but regardless, I have never run across a slant crank that wasn't drilled to accept a manual.

manual slant cars were fairly common right up until the early 1980's

by then manual v8 cars were pretty darn rare

All the pre 70's ones were drilled and had a pilot bushing installed in them from the factory . I have never seen one from that era not drilled in the 45 years I've been fooling around with slants. But,I only mess with the older ones so anything newer than a 70 is an unknown to me

I have never seen a late slant six crank that wasn’t drilled for pilot bearing either

All slant six cranks are "drilled", but may or may not be "reamed". NAPA at one time did have a pilot bushing with a reduced OD that would fit in the cranks that were not reamed. I don't think the bushing is available any longer (was not about 5 years ago). There are three choices, either ream the bushing hole in the crank, or turn the od of a stock pilot bushing to fit, or if the crank is a 68 or newer use the late style pilot bearing. More Information for NATIONAL FC69907

Exactly per Charrlie_S, the way I got around that was to chuck-up the pilot bushing in a lathe and turn it down to a press-fit in the unfinished pilot hole in the crank, I found that easier than trying to re-size the crank at the time...........

I did that when I put a 318 from an automatic into my 65 Barracuda 4 speed car. It worked great for the 12 years I drove it after that .

I know for sure up too 1979 they are drilled, some might even have a pilot bearing in them already. Only issue you would worry about is flywheel snout diameter 67 down, 68 and up.
