I'm looking for the D shaft push clip/sleeve for a wiper knob. I believe it's 3/16. Goes inside the knob. Lmk

68-72 2 speed setup ? Looks like it. If so good luck. I cant find a really super good condition knob for one of those.

Mine is a bent over piece of spring steel shim stock. Dont want to take a chance on breaking it by digging it out of the knob for a pic. An alternative would be to do what they did on the 67 wiper knobs. Drill in on the side of the knob where the flat side of the switch shaft meets the spring steel retainer, tap the hole, and install a small set screw like used on heater control slider knobs.

I might have to do the shim stock. Not sure I have a tap that small. I'll also check Ace hardware, you never know?

8-32 tap, #29 drill. will be a hard hole to drill on a slanted round surface, but it can be done. use a 1/8 ball end mill to spot the hole. more than likely best if done in a Bridgeport or similar mill clamped in a vise bolted to the table.

personally I would try to make a clip out of spring stock.

Here is why i disagree with post #5. The 3 speed, and V speed knobs have a larger diameter shaft. They use a retainer as you have described. The 68-72 two speed has a smaller diameter shaft. It uses a piece of spring steel shim stock in the slotted hole. Note the yellow marking in the pic below. I would know. I have a 69 2 speed setup with the knob on the left, and a 67 V speed setup with the knob on the right. I believe the 73 and up 2 speed switches went to the larger more common 3 speed shaft. Woulda been nuch easier if they made all the wiper switch shafts the same size.

If not out of spring stock, and like the set screw idea you can use a file, and file a flat into it and carefully drill a hole and tap for a set screw.

I agree with matt, that spring looks different. some one has to have one that they can show me, I can make one.

That's interesting. I was under the impression it was a full D clip. My mistake. A little shim will get way easier to make.

here are three styles of attachments. I have three pictured here. 2 speed, Variable with electric wash and 2spd/3spd/variable with foot pump. I have a container with several of all types Taking offers . My chrome and emblem collection is large. I guess its because they are shiny I think they are precious. LOL

Do you have a pic of the 2 speed insert?

What should the retainer for this one look like?
