Instead of buying a Hurst 5973, 7036, or a 7926 for $300-$500, has anyone ever bought a similar stick and bent it to fit?

Way back I did it once using a non-map gas plumbing torch, just enough to bend it below the boot.

I've bent non-chrome sticks to suit my needs in non stock applications, but if you tried to heat and bend a chrome stick you'll ruin the chrome

If I can find a stick that has a close enough upper bend and about the same height, I don't mind bending it below the boot.

The boot is fairly high up on the stick.
If I ruin the chrome there I don't really care.

The stick in the first pick is available new for under $100.
There are other similar sticks available.

No one has ever done this in an a-body bench?

2 hole, but I would prefer the slip if I can drill it for 2 hole.

Here is the Hurst bench shifter for 67 that you could buy to replace your factory Inland. I see these on ebag, complete shifter, within the same price range.

Thing is, there is no bend sideways, which I want. I didn't realize the round bar ones bent sideways.

Allegedly the number on just the handle is 3836. If I could find that and drill it would be ideal.

If you drill a slip for a 2 hole would it fit?

come by and get the one off my garage wall. 100.00 just fyi they are the worst shifter handle on the planet. Third gear with one of those is almost impossible.
