I have a 1967 Dart convertible and was installing the windshield everything went well except the bottom should there be a locking strip that fits in the bottom part before the chrome gets put on?
Thanks for any advise this is the first time I have ever attempted to install a windshield hope the pic uploads

Thread moved from Early A to Body and Trim

On 67 the bottom "lock" is a chromed plastic piece that goes into that channel then the side chrome and top chrome go on. in 68 they changes the design and it is mettle chrome on all 4 sides and (IIRC) the rubber is different as well. There is a site that sells the chromed plastic strip Ill see if I can find it

Precision Replacement parts is the only mfg. Lots of retailers sell it. Be sure it's from Precision or you may not be happy.
Do a search on here, quite a few threads regarding "mylar lockstrip" which is what its called.

precision is even MORE proud of their products (keep in mind this will be the last one you buy in your lifetime)

looks like Just Mopar is selling Precisions part (part numbers are almost the same, I'd call both and see if any difference)

Frustrating thing is I have a repop lockstrip installed, that was included when we bought the 67 fastback cuda. I swear the stuff shrunk, when I spoke to Joel from Precision he said that their product doesnt shrink and would warranty. I had no receipt so no warranty.
Mylar lockstrip takes a specific gasket. You cant mix n match. Its pricey either way, lockstrip front and back for me is approx $600-800. Change to 68/9 stainless requires new gaskets, clips, windshield removal and reinstall.
Good luck

Through the years, people have used the chrome insert as found on the truck applications. It is considerably cheaper, but it is not as wide and as @4spdragtop, stated the Precision piece is almost semi rigid and thus the reason that it has to be shipped oversize due to the length.

If your looking for the correct pieces to do the 67 A-Body windshield or rear window gaskets, your only choice is the Precision brand. Various vendors sell the product line and pricing can vary significantly.

I would not be afraid of the Precision brand. They are a supplier to the OE Automotive industry and unlike some of the other manufactures, the quality control is very good. After 28 plus years of dealing with the manufacture, they offer a quality product at what I consider reasonable pricing.

The change to 68/9 stainless reveal moldings doesn't exactly apply to a convertible. A-body convertibles retained the mylar insert at bottom of windshield all 3 years.
Some owners have installed the bottom piece of stainless from the 68/9 hard tops at the bottom of the vert windshield but... they had to come up with something to lock the gasket preventing water leaks and they had to install the attach clips for this added piece of stainless reveal before the windshield was installed.

Has anyone used the multi year gasket on a 67 dart conv and did it leak and how did it look I'm doing a nos resto on a 67 383 dart gts conv and the windshields the last part but I'm not able to find a correct 1967 dart conv windshield gasket. I have the correct locking strip but no luck on the gasket so if anyone has used the gasket that is available please let me know how it works out and looked thanks

I went through the same thing I found one at national Moparts had to modify a bit but after the finished product looked and sealed well they are not cheap as well
