Figured I'd start a thread on it and keep the non sale related comments out f my sale ad in an effort to keep the mods at bay....love ya mods!

But what is the fear of leaving them uncovered? what can happen- just curious-

I guess the same reason Google maps blurs out tag numbers and faces.... Keeps some of the unscrupulous people out of your garage?

Won't help if you go out for a drive & are followed home.

It would be silly to get 'em inside & never drive them though.

Personally, I see no point in blocking a tag out in a for sale ad - if some one wants to buy your car, guess what!

They come over to see it in person, tag & all.....

Yep. And they can stab you in your own driveway and leave you for dead..... then your wife can sue the knife manufacturer for making the knife, and start a political movement to outlaw steak knives.

Anyone who lets unknown persons on thier property to assess a for sale item is looking for problems.
I would made available to the seller, photos-descriptions-info, when it came time to see the vehicle and potentially exchange money, we would meet at a fire station, police office parking lot,,
That provides protection for both parties.
When I buy-sell local to someone that I met through a forum like FABO, I research thier posting history, if it looks fine, then no problem, we can meet at my place or theirs. But never with an unknown person.

But....... even then he gets to see your plates & the address on the title.

I think it all started with the thought that somebody could get the information and apply for a missing title then claim the car was theirs, use to be just VINs but it soon moved to plates.

It started with paranoia & apparently continues as such.

Life is too short to spend it worrying about stupid **** and dishonest people. I sell things out of my driveway all the time and laugh at the silliness every time I see license plates covered in a photo. I dont live in fear, I beleive in people until they cross me.

Ever hear of anyone murdered at a garage sale? Locations published all the time.

Heaven forbid that an address is in a GPS program somewhere since any murderer on the loose in the world can buy one.........

The difference here is that we are on a public forum that anyone can see. They can learn about people, what they drive and if they get a license plate...trace them to where they live.

The World is full of crazy people, no reason to make it easier for them bring their craziness to your front door. Maybe they don’t like your opinion, politics or a hundred other things that sets them off.

Well, I have three websites with my address on them.

One of them for close to 30 years now.

I have also posted photos of my cars with the plates exposed on numerous occasions.

I am quite proficient with a framing hammer though.

No one has messed with me yet..........

Yet...

IMHO, if I lived someplace where I had to be that paranoid... I'd move. No sense living your life in fear - reasonable precautions are OK but not that kind of paranoia

What will help someone who follows ME home? Bless their heart.

When I started driving in the early 2000s you could take a plate number or a vin number to the DMV and get a print out of the same registration the owner has.

Now a days, they don't put the address of the owner on the registration portion that is intended to stay with the vehicle.
If you go in now to run a plate number or vin number you have to prove it is your own, if not you get nothing. If a vehicle is on your property and you are trying to see who the owner is, they won't give you a record but send a state patrol trooper to run it for you and he only will contact the owner.

That is the state of Colorado anyways. So there is no reason to cover it

I cover up the address on my house because I'm afraid I'll get a bill in the mail that I can't afford...

I didn't mean to set off a fire storm of comments- funny thought- Just thought there was something I was missing about showing plates...
Good luck selling your car- looks sweet- lot of guys love the C bodies....

I like this pic of my plate!

I drive on public roads so people see this few ALOT!

I always wondered why folks cover the plate. I would think "don't folks see it ALL THE TIME?"

ya might want to look and see if your car is still in the driveway. I kinda like it. lol you knew that anyway

I dont have to look, I would hear it fire up.

The next sound would be slide on my Sig putting a hollow point into the chamber.

:elmer:

The last car stole, I didn't start it up until a couple years later. The previous owner never heard a sound.......
