Some of you already made some suggestions on "whut'tado" with the 01 Cummins 24V I just bought. Anybody, opinions on simple stuff, "non harmful" LOL to boost things a bit?

"Turbo elbow?" Still researching that
"J hook" " " " "
Some sort of "box" don't want to spend a TON of money...................

This is a 5 speed by the way so don't need stuff for an automatic. Probably won't swap out for a larger turbo, and know about the lift pump nonsense, and am looking at that

Fass ddrp for the lift pump. Free flowing air filter and a banks Rams horn on the intake side. Went with the 4 inch exhaust on mine. 2002 2500 4x4 24 valve 6 speed manual. Woke it up pretty good. No other mods.

I wonder if you could get away with a "manual boost controller"
Which is just a little doohicky that tricks the truck into thinking it is seeing less boost then it does

^^I've been doing some searching and I agree

You for sure need gauges. Isspro are very good. EGT, Boost, and Fuel PSI. Replace the stock fuel system with the Fass Titanium system. I've done a lot of reading on the aftermarket intake horns for my '02 24v 4x4. Save your money, the stock one flows very good and is hard to beat. I have a Crazy Carls SBHAF (super big honkin air filter). You really hear that turbo spool up after that! Sounds like a semi. :)

Mine is an Auto, 47RE. Before I change out the turbo, injectors and get a programmer, I will rebuild the trans with billet internals, good clutches etc. If I buy all the parts and do it myself, it'll cost about 6k, not including the converter, another grand. I haven't done that yet, but when I get my tax return, it'll happen. :) Then the engine upgrade will commence! They are fun, but expensive! Having a fast Abody is cool, but having a fast truck that weighs 4 tons is really somethin!

Thanks for mentioning gauges. Is lift fuel pressure affected by turbo boost, or will a simple pressure gauge "do ya?" Actually I was thinking of a warning light for the lift pressure

For a chip I like the Edge Easy. 65 hp and 180 tq. It will come with the boost elbow. U have instant throttle response. Better mileage too. I put in an AFE air filter. I also got an airflow endgate as I pull a 5th wheel. My tranny is built and has a billet triple disc lock up torque converter. I also put on the MBRP 4 in exhaust. Kim

Cummins Dodges are a big thing where I live, the "real" diesel truck guys talk badly about "canned tunes" but I think that has to do more with the owners being idiots about it (cranking up the fuel but the turbo can't keep up so they blow black smoke everywhere, and aren't fast). I think in your case if you're just looking for a little extra over stock it should be OK but there is something to be said for custom tunes.

Just a thought, I would imagine a lot of diesel companies do similar tuning as gas engines, they send you an initial tune to drive around with for a while as the ECM logs data, you download the data to a computer and email it back to the tuner who adjusts the tune and sends another one back to try.

Oh yeah and you lucky duck for having a Cummins LOL, enjoy it... best light-duty diesel engine by a long shot IMHO.

Order of ops for a 24v imho:
Lift pump
Gauges
Exhaust
Intake
Fuel filtration
After those add ons a small fuel box should make ya pretty dang happy. Pretty crazy the power you can make with these things. I have a 98.5’ 5 spd and an 09’ 6.7 love them both.

I think there's an EZ here for sale locally. Guy's phone doesn't work and his emails not answered. Don't know if he's stupid or it's sold or what LOL

U need 1 for a 2000-2001. 2002 has a different map sensor so the plug is different. 99 and down is different also. Kim. I run a Holley blue or black pumps on my trucks. Runs at 14 psi which is what factory pressure is. Kim

Well.......this wasn't a Cummins, but I had a DiabloSport Predator on my 04 F250 6.0. I liked it. Free internet updates and the programmer is an OBDII scan tool. Three power levels. Fast, faster and hold the hell on. I didn't use the third setting because at the time they didn't have transmission support on that highest setting. But it actually increased both power and mileage. Alien technology I tell you. lol

Gauges are always recommended. With the smaller hp chips/ programmer I never used them. Now I have a Edge Juice with Attitude along with their monitor. Isspro gauges are the best. Their is cheaper gauges out there that will do the job. Still running the Holley fuel pumps. Kim

I had a TST PowerMax 3 in my 98.5. Nine levels of adjustment and the power would come on smooth. Mark Chapple (owner) was a retired Cummins engineer that worked on the 24valve as his last project.

Isspro gauges, Westach fuel pressure gauge (can watch the pressure flutter before the stock lift pump fails), Southbend clutch and full splined 5th gear shaft so the nut doesn't walk off.

I have to get the White Whale III sold first LOL

Was reading through the thread and realized I didn't actually answer the question...I never got to wild with mine but did run a borrowed Superchips (just a fuel box I believe) for awhile. Had to be careful when it was wet. Sideways at 60 in a 2500 4x4 wasn't exactly fun lol. I liked the tuner though. Seemed fairly safe and I could adjust for tire size and what not.

I have a '05 Ram 4x4. Researched TDR and most of the other web sites, settled on a Smarty 06 programmer. good power and mileage. The big problem with any programmer is getting carried away with the power settings. I smoked the factory clutch in the first week, and scared the hell out of a lot of other drivers before setting it to level 3 where it has stayed for over 100K. the only other mods other than the suspension is a K&N air filter and a South Bend dual disk clutch. One the best thing to do is to add wally world two stroke oil in every tank. It helps lubricate the lift put and injectors, and just idles smoother. I would also adjust the valves. Good Luck.

I have a couple of friends that run the super chips 3855. The tuner was bought in the late 2000s. They like them. Usually the have them set on tow mode. Kim
