Supercuda's on the way back...after18 years!

Well.. here I am in the dead of winter in this part of Canada so time to address some of the issues I have to deal with . Tach not reading properly, oil gauge reading too low, gas gauge all over the place, definitely not accurate sooo ... sending the whole cluster out to be completely checked over and recalibrated. Before/after pics to follow...

Ok , so I just got my gauge cluster back from Mr Heaterbox and its perfect!! Great job done with all gauges calibrated, tach now working properly, speedo reconditioned and zero'd out and new electronic regulator. Brian at Mr. Heater box does great work and, for all the Canadians on this site, is based in Ontario. Done on time and exactly what was quoted, packaged properly and arrived undamaged.

Now for the only issue I have and that is getting the cluster back into the dash.
Does anyone have any tips on getting the heater control sliders and cables reinstalled? This is a real ***** to do!

I have taken out the two 3/8 inch bolts holding the controls to the cluster housing but with the cables attached I am having a hard time getting the bolts threaded back into the cluster as I can't reach them with any wrench or socket with the limited amount of clearance there.

Ant tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Good to hear Al. Dad n I used them a couple years back and actually drove a couple hours east to drop off tachs.
I would undo cables, remove console, glove box and see if that helps. I cant remember the exact order we did ours. AC car so the diffuser had to come out too I believe.
Good luck.

I'm going to try removing the glove box. Didn't try that yet.

Thanks for the reply!!

I leave ps bucket seat in while I go thru glove box area.
But with these damned things ya gotta save yer pennies and rent a skirted midget sometimes.

I hear ya !!

After looking this over last night, I think I'm going to put studs in the threaded holes in the cluster where the heater controls go instead. I think it will be much easier to get a nut and washer on a stud in a limited access space than try to thread a bolt into the cluster without being able to see it.

Good idea!

Success!! Tonight I disassembled the gauge cluster and drilled and tapped the holes for the heater control bolts for 1/4 -20 studs. Re-assembled the cluster and re-installed it. Hooking up the heater controls and cables took about 5 minutes!! I fooled with this for about two hours Saturday with no results. The modification I did took about 20 minutes and worked perfectly!

Strongly recommend doing this if you have the cluster out. Your poor scratched and gouged arms and hands will thank you!!

Hope this helps somebody else!!

Latest update !

I'm having a great time with the car since finishing it and have been in 7 shows since. ( one best of show !!) I must say that the overwhelming comment I get is about the color. It's always the only Mopar painted with Emberglo pearl at the shows here in my part of the world and people seem to like it. One great thing happened at the shows... I met the third owner of my car and got pics of him and his wife in it. Here's some pics of Mr Gerry Hedges and his wife Sue sitting in their old car for the first time since 1974!!

That's cool.
Thanks qkcuda!

Ya this was a special moment for sure! Heard a lot of history of the car and how it was used, things that went wrong and a lot of "feel good stories" as well.
Also got the names of the other owners and I'm going to try to track them down as well.

Cheers!!

If any of those owners are in Ontario, you're going to have to bring it down, and take me for a ride!

Holy reunions Batman... your life is nearly complete!! Just a couple more to go!!!

Yup! Hopefully I can get all the past owners pics behind the wheel! I know who they are and all are still alive except one, the original owner, a University professor named James Jesso who apparently only kept the car for a few short months before selling it.

BTW, noticed you are Retired USAF. Thanks for the service! USAF spent a lot of time in my part of the world during WW-2 (Gander, Torbay ,Goose Bay and Argentia ) and Labrador up to a few years ago.

You're welcome @AAndrews and thank you!

You live in a beautiful part of the world.

Believe it or not I had Thule Air Base in Greenland on my dream sheet when I was active duty. I met a Danish Artic Contactor who was stationed there and I was thinking a one year tour would be cool (cold though I guess!). I heard there is a woman behind every tree!!! (But there are no trees, lol).

Never did get orders though.

Sorry qkcuda, missed your post.

I'm planning on being up your way in the near future. Always wanted to do the Woodward Ave Dream Cruise and I have a lot of friends in Ontario. Hopefully touch base with you and 4speed ragtop during the trip.

Cheers!!

Woodward is the same weekend as Moparfest down here. I will be at Moparfest on Saturday for sure, and maybe Sunday.

Not to worry, If I make it to your neck of the woods, Ill be sure to look you up, possibly on the way back??

Cheers!!

Supercuda just got her heart back!! Can't wait to hear it running.

Here's some engine pics. BTW, for those considering using RMS front suspension and k-member, I had to alter the Milodon oil pan a little to clear the steering rack. I'll post pics of the modification as soon as I can.

So I know this is an old post but I was wondering what headers did you use?

Hi Dragnut,
I used TTi Shorties. They look great , gave me plenty of clearance for steering and make spark plug changes a breeze. Also let me tuck my exhaust up closer to the floor pan with my 4-speed trans so no exhaust hanging down below frame rails.

Highly recommend TTI !!
