Slant 6 dies when driving

-
1973 and up electronic dizzy bad pick up coil. One of the first symptoms of a bad ignition pickup is an engine that stalls. An old or failing ignition pickup may cut out signal intermittently, which may cause the engine to stall. The engine may suddenly just shut off, almost as if the key had been turned off. Depending on the nature of the issue, sometimes the vehicle can be restarted and driven again after a brief period of time. However, this problem will persist and worsen until it is taken care of.

this describes to the T what my 73 Duster is doing. It is really keeping me from cruising the car. I have no idea whether my rebuilt 225 had the pick up coil replaced. Is there any value in buying an old electronic ignition tester or just go ahead and start replacing things?

Also check your wiring harness to the mopar Ecu box some times they melt together, and ballast people say if the ballast is no good car won't start, but my. Brother car still started but ran like **** turns out the connection at the ballast was cracked but still made a bit of contact, do the free visual checks first then go from the cheap fixes like ballast until you get close, and good luck.

For sure, next time you see old testers (dwell meter & timing light) at a garage sale, pick them up for $2. If you start replacing stuff, I suggest changing to a GM 8-wire HEI system. It will trigger w/ your e-distributor. That will replace your Mopar ECU and coil, and eliminate the ballast. Stronger spark and better wiring. 85-95 GM V-8 pickups in any junkyard. Many posts. Can buy a new kit from TrailBeast here. That is if you don't worry about staying original, which is impossible anyway for a 73+ slant with their growing emissions clutter that can't be purchased.

Here's a novel idea. Why not try some diagnosis?

well that really was my question. I have a set of 73 manuals and noted that I would diagnose a pickup coil issue with a Chrysler Electronic ignition Tester. I noted a few non - Mopar branded testers that check integrity of the ignition system and specifically the pickup coil on eBay. I asked if I should buy one.
