Is this 360 a waste of time and money

I have a complete 360 that I have had quite a while and I don’t know much and almost nothing.

I tried to figure out the block Year date buts it too vague to be sure. See the pictures below.

I’m guessing it’s a roller motor. Pulled the 70’s 340 that was on it. Took a picture of the valley and intake on the heads....real narrow runners. Could these be the 308 heads or low compression junk?p

You can see the numbers on the heads. But when I removed the valve covers, no numbers on the heads I could see.

This engine may have came out of a truck since it has a truck oil pan on it.

I’m wondering what compression it was out of the factory and is this a good, fair or mediocre build. Any opinions or info appreciated

The one pic, looks like a year of 1991 (?). Low compression. Should be 308 casting heads, very good. If they aren't cracked. Only way to know if it's worth building is to completely disassemble and measure. This would be a decent start to a build, provided you can DIY some of the checking.
 
The casting number puts it as a 1989-1992 360 Roller LA block. Certainly worth building if you want a hydraulic roller cam, and still use LA heads. I am sure others that know more then myself can give you more information then I can. If you lived closer and did not want it, I would be talking to you.
 
Thx for your input. During the storm tonight I too these pics out in the shop. Was pretty sure it was a hydraulic roller but the 340 intake and dust threw me off
 
Yea it's a roller lifters engine. I will take it off yours hands lol.

Looks like some intake ports are rusty. Remove the heads to check cylinder bores before making any plans, just in case. Hoping they are not rusty.
While heads are off, check for the casting numbers again.
It's definitely a factory hydraulic roller setup, as seen by the dog bones and spider on top of the lifters.

Probably 308 heads and likely at least one is cracked!

Good baseline block to start with.

It's a roller cam 360... Now to determine if it's the LA roller (88 - 91) or the magnum (92 and later)...

That is a great engine. I found one in a 91 dodge ram 2500 and should have bought it and didnt.
 
The 308 ports look a little narrower than the early heads.
I think 302s only came on 318s, if you can't find numbers you'll have to pull a head to be sure.
