"cheater slicks"

Here is something I learned the hard way... If you are racing at the track and really trying to win or improve the cars performance, drag radials are really different than bias ply slicks. With the bias ply tires, I'd do a 3-4 second burnout and set the pressures so they would still be spinning a little for the first 30 feet or so. That gave me the best 60 foot times. But with the drag radials, you don't want any spinning at all. To really get these tires to work, they need to "dead hook" at the launch. This requires different suspension setups between the two types of tires. Don't use rim screws with radials, they need higher pressures. I also only do about a 1 second burnout with the radials, they don't seem to like a lot of heat. With the radials, my experience has been that if you lose traction off the line, they are really tough to get to bite again, and the run is junk. This is just what I believe, based on just running a couple of my cars over the last 20 years. Maybe others have had different experience, or can tell me if I'm doing something wrong...
