I’ve assembled and disassembled the front of this engine many times but usually it was all done in the same day. Two years ago I took the power steering pump off to pull the engine and now I can’t recall where this sleeve goes. If I put it between the bracket and water pump housing then the pump is crooked. I don’t recall it being between the head of the bolt and the bracket but I could be mistaken. Any help is appreciated.

did you change to AL water pump from Cast Iron? My understanding is that the two have different mounting bosses.

What year is this, I have seen a sleeve similar on a 318 on a 68 Barracuda I once had with iron water pump

Just to make things better I found a pic I was smart enough to take before the disassembly and the sleeve is nowhere to be seen. Wtf lol

I tried to install it without the sleeve and the bolt was too long. Maybe the guy at the shop used the wrong bolt and instead of finding the shorter one he just threw the sleeve on there so it looked right.

looks like a aftermarket metal oil pump drive coller for a sbc to me...

I don't know the answer, but I would for sure check the bottoms of those bolt holes. There are one or two of them "out there in front" that can crack into the water jacket, and one, if run into the jacket, can damage the cylinder behind it.

STOP!
That bolt goes into the water jacket, and you can punch a hole in the cylinder wall by torquing a too-long bolt in there! My guess is the spacer goes under the head of the too-long bolt[/QUOTE

I was aware.

If I recall the sleeve goes in the outside between the plate and the washer. Its just to shorten the bolt.
