Inline wiring splice clips........from the Dodge RAM service manual

!!HUH!! Old man learned something. Was into the Dodge ram service manual and saw a little drawing about inline splice "clips" A simple little "U" shaped clip that you wrap around the "running" wire along with the "to be added" tap wire, and crimp. Solder........Makes a nice compact splice.
Mopar Connection Repair Kit
  1. Remove 13 millimeters (0.50 inch) of insulation from each wire that needs to be spliced.
  2. Place a piece of adhesive sealant-lined heat shrink tubing (Part Number 04778570 or equivalent) over the wire on one side of the splice. Be certain the length of tubing will be sufficient to cover and seal the entire repair area.
  3. Place the strands of the wires being spliced so that they are overlapping each other within the splice band (1).
  4. Using a crimping tool (1) (MOPAR Part Number 05019912AA, Miller Special Tool Number 10042 or equivalent) crimp the splice band and wires together securely.
  5. Using rosin core type solder (1) only and a suitable solder- ing iron (3), solder the wire and splice band connection (2) together.
  6. Center the heat shrink tubing (2) over the splice joint repair and heat using a suitable heat gun. Heat the joint until the tubing is tightly sealed and sealant (1) begins to ooze out of both ends of the tubing.

I saw that procedure (sort of the same way, stumbled on it not long ago) but not the splice kit chart. Thanks for posting!
 
We use AMP picabond connectors in the phone biz, sort of a double ended crimp that's gel filled. Nice and small when you have to do 3600 of them in a splice.......would be cool if they made them for larger wire than 26-19G.

I bought a factory back up camera for my Ram, since it didnt come with one. When I was installing it and got to the wiring section that is exactly how they showed to connect it, to the proper wire under the fuse box. Do you think they would include that clip though, NOPE! A lot of good that did, I liked the idea but really wish it was in the bag of parts.
 
On heavy gauge splices you can spiral a small gauge wire around the overlapping wires being spliced and then solder and heat shrink.
 
I bought a pack of uninsulated butt connectors. Nice to solder after crimping,especially high load wiring.
 
^^Those are not what we were referring to, here. "Open barrel" allows you to strip a RUNNING wire somewhere in the middle without cutting, and tap off a second wire.
 
LOL Reason I got so excited when I found this, is it's ALWAYS been a PITA to tap into a running wire. I've just never seen those
