It was built by my fathers best friend. It runs great, it’s only got about 350 miles on the engine and tranny from when he built it 2 years ago. He told me when he took it apart to build it he found out it’s been bored .40 over. He honed the cylinders, re ringed it, all new bearings and such. He left the cam and solid lifters in place but made sure the lift and everything were within specs and no flat lobes. He had the heads milled and spec’d, re-seated and it was all put back together with new Edelbrock dual-plane intake and carb and ceramic headers. The thing sounds great! Runs great! Looks awesome! But I can’t spin the tires on wet pavement. It’s fairly lackluster in the performance department...what can I do to make this thing GO!!!????

Play with the timing. Learn to tune, it’s free horsepower.

A high stall converter. I just received mine from Dynamic. Can't wait to get it in ths weekend.

BTW, nice car. The goal is to have mine that nice one day.
Thanks. I can’t take credit for it, but I can sure drive it! He built the car over 2 years ago and drove it 300 miles since...he’s had the car for 16 years and rebuilt it in 2015-2016, he put like 2500 miles on it since he bought it....makes me sad. I’ve wanted this car for literally decades! Finally!!! I’m going to enjoy it!!

run a compression check and post
do a foot brake stall test and post
check the rear end gear ratio- post
check the timing at idle and reved up with a dial back timing gun -post
still running points?
what carb and carb number number

Wow. That’s a to do list now, isn’t it? . That’ll take me a bit, but I’ll get it done!

My buddy had a slant that could barely make it up a hill. Rear end was a 8 1/4 2.24! He put a 3.21 in it and could roast the tires in first. The 273 is a little soft on the bottom end. It needs a taller rear than most to get happy. I'd look for a 3.55 or better in a 7.25 rear. The 273 (small bore 318) loves to rev so a little R's on the road wont hurt it. Super nice car BTW, love the color!

Now there’s some good actionable advice, too!!! I appreciate it!!! You all are just awesome! Thanks again everyone! And thanks! I am very happy with my little Barracuda. It’s a dream car for me

My '76 Pontiac Ventura has a 260 cubic inch Oldsmobile V8, Rochester dualjet carb, all original 38k mile car, rear end has either 2:41 or 2:56 gears, I can't remember which one, but it can't spin the tires to save it's life, going up hills is sometimes a challenge, and passing on a 2 lane road requires planning a week in advance. Real nice car for cruising, rides and drives like a new car, but so completely gutless. I have a 350 Rocket 4 barrel, but my wife has always been resistant to me making any modifications to it. I remember driving a '78 Trans Am around 1980 or so, it had a 403 4 barrel Olds and an automatic trans, had to have the 2:41 rear end cause it probably would have had a hard time outrunning my Ventura.

My 67 273 w/276 gear will break loose 1 tire. My changes... OEM single plane intake and 2 brl replaced w/73 dual plane and 2 brl., points replaced w/73 electronic ignition and chrome box, and timing tweaked.
You already have dual plane and 4 brl. so even with the OEM points ignition, look at timing. The OEM tuning specs just don't work, especially with todays puppy pee for fuel.

I’ve been hearing timing and rear gears a lot. Looks like I’m getting my timing light out! Thanks Redfish!

To simply jack the base timing up to about 16 degrees BTC requires a dial back timing lamp and you'll need to reduce curb idle. Leaving the vacuum spark advance disconnected makes a difference too but... advance curve throughout rpm range gets more complicated than that. If yours is anything like mine, the OEM distributer is well worn. Point dwell is varies all over the scale. So sure, play with it. Can't hurt to just jack it up until it pings under load then back off a couple degrees. Then you can start researching electronic ignition options and advance curves.
It wont ever be a tire cooker without more cam, exhaust, gear, but there is a little bit more to be enjoyed without forfeiting the highway friendly gear.
