I need to swap mine for a better set. It looks like I can remove the splash shield and get to everything that way, but Im not 100% sure so thought I would ask. Has anyone ever replaced a hood hinge with out removing the entire fender?

You can. Easier with the fender off but!

Yes...remove the splash shield & take your time. There's not much room so you have to be patient :)

The hinge retainer clip is a pain to re-install. Some people recommend drilling the pin & using a cotter pin instead.

Use an oversized socket with a couple cured layers of plastic dip on it. Peel it off when you're done.

Anyone know of aftermarket hinges that can be adapted to a 68 fastback, that doen`t cost $700 ?
I have a lift off hood, and would like other wise, but have to have the hood scoop for clearance.

I have a fiberglass hood with a Hemi scoop on my 68 FB barracuda. But it is a bolt on hood with the original hinges and light weight springs. Most lift of hoods just don't have enough reinforcement built into them to make them a hinge operation.

True , but I can rig about anything if I put my mind to it ! With the right hinges, it wouldn`t be terribly hard to reinforce the hood some way .
Have seen aftermarket hinges, but their way out there on price, too rich for this ol country boy !

I understand. In my younger years I didn't mind lift off hoods, now I really don't like them. Since I'm old and fat.

I don`t like the room it takes up when I take it off-------------garage is 16x38, not enough room o the sides w/ all my junk .

It was a pain to replace the cap on my 72 Swinger- didn't want to remove fender- 16K survivor and piece of trim across rocker. Took out inner fender. Had access to lift at buddies body shop. I couldn't get it . One of the guys worked on it for almost 2 hours- he was finally able to get it- frustrating....
