We have a 68 Valiant that has been modified for drag strip. The roll cage goes right through where the VIN was on the dash. Is there anywhere else we can find a VIN number on this car? 68 Valiant Signet. Thanks

Found this number. Is this the right one? What does it mean? Top radiator support.

1968 should still be the SO (Sales Order) number, but yours does look like a VIN. Vin is also stamped on the trunk rail under the weather strip, usually left side. Funny thing on yours..."B" would be 225 slant 6, "8" is '68 model year, but there's no "V" in assembly plant listing.

You will not find another VIN number on the car. The core support and trunk lip number are the Sequence Order Number which is on the fender tag, the VIN is stamped no where else on the body. If you have a title, the VIN will be on it, good luck!

HemiSSDart......Should '68 not still be SO number there, not VIN?

There use to be some nonsense you could write to ?? Chrysler?? if you had a little documentation and get a punch card on your car, but I bet with no vin you are screwed. You have anything? Fender tag? title? We had some guy here some time ago, had bought a 68 with no dash or a swapped dash, was in same shape as you

B8V =;

B - Hamtramck Assembly Plant

8 - Model year, 1968

V - Valiant

Don't think so...

If it was a VIN, The "V" would be the first letter, as in "VL23....

1968 Plymouth Vehicle Identification Numbers (vin)

Just for ***** and giggles, let's invent a VIN here...VL23B8_208889. The "V" is Valiant, the "L" is low price class, the "23 is 2drht, "B" is 225 /6, 8 is '68 model year, "_" is assembly plant (unknown here) and the rest is sequence, or serial number. If it's a VIN, then Mother screwed up the assembly plant digit, and ,if it isn't a VIN, there are too many digits to be a SO number (no letters in SO's). The mystery continues......

No mystery at all.

NO PARTIAL BODY VIN ON 1968 CARS.

It is the sales order number with an assembly plant, model year & model ID - not a partial VIN.

The first model year for partial VINs on the body happened later, for the 1969 model year. ;-)

That is not a '68, so whole separate discussion there.

Maybe start your own thread for the people that know the older ones like yours?

OK...here's my rad stamping and my data plate...care to explain how it works?

Your car is a 67 Dart GT convertible the and the core support and trunk lip decode like this:

7 is for 1967 (edited for being a dumbass)
2 is Hamtramck
421 is the scheduled production date
03791 is the SO# that matches the fender tag lower right.

Any other questions? The 68 is the same except for the B is Hamtramck, 8 is 1968, and V is Valiant.

Ok thanks. I stand corrected on the '67-'68 differences. I thought everything '68- down would all be the same.

Model year changes from one to the next are quite common.

Body number stamps from the 1969 model year up stabilized for quite a few years.
