For those with Magnums - What Mounts did you use?

-
Schumacher lists both styles for their poly spool mounts; part number 73PA for the 273/318 engine sizes and 73PLA for the 340/360 engine size. Looks like they are currently out of stock.
I don't have factory part numbers, but I see what you mean on part stores only listing one style, and it's unclear which style that is.
If you don't want to run a spacer (does not need to be welded) and you can't find proper listings, you need to find used factory mounts and just replace the insulator inserts that are available separately.
I am running the Schumacher mounts on mine.

Let's say you're Chrysler, and you make 360 blocks with one mount, and then 318 blocks with a different mount, and you sell a few million of them.

If you spontaneously change the mounts that the 360 uses then you have a problem when one of your existing 360 customers orders a replacement block. The new block doesn't fit the existing mount.

...because the factory never makes changes to anything that requires a different part after a certain point in time, right?

Thanks Bobzilla, looks like it gets spacers and go on with my day with money still in my pocket!
If this was an OE build I’d go after correct 73 340/74 360 mounts but she’s getting spacers and I’ll like it!!! :thankyou:

If you have a small block k-frame, you simply order correct mounts for your application, same as if it was an LA engine.
If you have a six cylinder k-frame, you can order the correct conversion mounts.
If you are replacing the k-frame, just order the correct LA style mounts for whatever application that k-frame was originally from.

I get what you're saying here, but I bought what I thought was correct mounts. Thinking I had the correct mounts, I decided to post here to see what others ran into.

btw: Mounts are different between the 318 and 340/360 so not as simple as it would seem.

And of course, they are out of stock.

$180 for two motor mounts is a really tough pill to swallow considering the available 318’s are $12 each new!

And I do understand Schumacher is a “Specialty Service” so the have to charge a premium. I’d also like to use their headers but can’t justify $900+ for a set of A Body small block headers!!! I only have a few hundred more in a custom built set of headers on my 1970 440 Challenger!

Great parts but I’m going to save the $160 and make some spacers.

Thanks for the link!

Never did figure out why Chrysler had the different driver side mount (starting with the 340, continued with the 360). Would've made made more sense if both sides we're the same for all- 273 through 360.
Now, if using the mid-block magnum mounts (as in OE truck, or, say, a custom street rod app), they are the same. 318 and 360, as everyone knows.

The three bolt holes for the Magnum mounts, used in factory truck applications, were the same for both 5.2 and 5.9 engine sizes.

I put a 5.9L into a 74 Duster that had a 318 la with spool mounts. I just bolted the original La mounts onto the magnum. Only thing different is took out spongy rubber and put in PST bushings. Works great easy to line up and positive lock in with washers engaged in bolt saddle.
