I have no real complaints over the OEM coupler but I have a Flaming River power to manual kit with double D shaft and u-joint. I have this question into their tech dept but looking for user feedback here.

Manual box has clean, sharp splines with no signs of wear. The OEM coupler fits over it snugly with no slop whatsoever. The FR universal joint slips over the box splines very easily (almost too easily) with some rotational play.

Step #15 of their install sheet says to install a shoulder bolt, followed by the set screw. The set screw is supposed to "remove end play from the steering coupler." There is no shoulder bolt or hole in u-joint to use one - only the single set screw.

I cannot see how this set screw, even torqued to their specs, is going to prevent the slop in the spines for more than about 5 min. Your experience?

I've seen that exact part you're talking about and the builder ended up using the OEM coupler instead. Sent their coupler back. It was one of my regular customers who builds customs for people. He was working on a super nice 69 Road Runner. Used the FR steering box, which was fine, but their coupler was just as you described.

I knew a girl with some slop once.

I'm doing a custom column right now and its all pretty tight, all FR stuff. We made a few trips up there to get all the right stuff but it's in a 32 3 window
that my friend bought and it looks good but mechanically it is a pile of junk.
We have to change the steering, brakes, suspension, engine mounts it's a nightmare. The steering column went through the floor between the gas and brake pedal, who can drive safely like that. Here is the FR setup we just put in, the set screws get red locktite and cranked down then the jam nuts installed. It's quit a tight fit

Thanks guys. I’m sending it back. Never got a response from FR and for the $, I expected a little more precision.

Yea, they are about 30 miles from me and they have nothing in stock, nobody to talk to so we went up and had them make it all while we waited, what a way to do business.
